Airline question
Okay, you go to get on a plane to fly somewhere, and you discover that they have seated an enormous tub of goo next to you, this person requires two seatbelt extenders just to strap in, and is so freakin' fat, his gigantic ass is taking up more than 50% of your seat. You really need to get to your destination, but don't really want to be crammed into half of the seat you paid full fare for, what do you do?

It depends on the airline. In some cases, if you complain loudly enough, they will remove the obsese person and put them on a later flight. Sometimes they will ask if you want to go later. Its up to the agent. Of course if there is another open seat anywhere, simply move, you are not bound to any specific seat.

Especially if you are a gold or plat member on the airline. Flag down a F/A and see what they can do but if there are no free seats then its a difficult call.
I just returned from an 8 hour flight to Geneva, where I flew with a tub of lard next to me from NYC to GVE. Could not even get the arm rest down, she was that fat, but no seats available... It was not fun... JoeA

I hear ya, Joe. I flew from Tokyo to San Francisco sitting next to a guy that took up almost half of my seat. Has to be the worst travelling experience I've ever had. Listening to this guys labored panting the whole flight....soaking wet breath...making me sick just thinking about it. SOB had no problem stuffing his a$$ with peanuts during the entire trip.
Totally disgusting! ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Randy

It's awfully nice to have keys in my pocket to an airplane full of gas at the local airport.
No security lines, and I get to go on MY schedule. No Tokyo to San Fransisco, though. |

Another reason why I live in Arizona! For those of you who do not read metars. His Pittsburg PA, wind out of the NW at 9 knots, 1 mile vis, snow, freezing fog, and overcast at 200 feet. 0c (32 degrees) and altimeter below normal which means sucky weather. Mine Scottsdale AZ, no wind, vis unlimited, 19c (65 degrees) with high pressure (read sunny!) in the area!

I almost moved to Phoenix about ten years ago, just because of the above metar.
I had some friends ask "Don't you know it gets hot there?" Yeah. Thats kinda the point. Sure, you run from the air-conditioned house to the air-conditioned car to the air-conditioned whatever for three months or so, but up here we do that for nine months to keep out of the rain. I rented Cessnas out of Chandler, and took some glider lessons at a dirt strip Northwest of Sun City. |

I did Atlanta to Van Nuys today. Didn't see a cloud anywhere along the route all day. You'd think it was May, the weather was so nice. Am starting my 10 days off, am really looking forward to the next week in sunny SoCal!

I just stay put and make the relatives visit me. Cheaper that way and don't have to deal with the B.S. of commercial flying, getting anal-probed by the TSA or the insane cost of fuel flying myself. I've flown coast-to-coast myself once in a Seminole, but it's a LONG flight. Fun, but long. Way too expensive to consider as a regular thing as well. . .
