How do you guys keep your pets, especially cats, off your cars during in storage? Don't get me wrong I like my wife's cat especially for mouse control. He eats them up like M&Ms! But the down side is he's always on top of the P-cars and with dirty paws. When he gets down he slides off the back or down the hood. I don't want to frighten him cause then the claws come out and SCRATCH!
![]() He goes on the car with or without the cover once in a while. If I put a thicker one on there he likes it even more! What do I do? ![]()

I visited a neighbor with a couple cats she used these motion detector alarms on the furniture. Worked great. http://www.bugspray.com/catalog/products/page1454.html

Yeah, he'll eat that right up! But I don't think I want to eliminate him quite yet. But he is being detained until I know what to do with him........

A friend with a 944 turbo would simply raise his hood when parked in the garage.
For some reason the cat would not jump on the car if the hood was open. |

This cat would sleep in the trunk! I've left the windows down before and got down the street and he startled me when I saw him on the floor on the passenger side sleeping. I drove him back home and let him out. Starting the car and driving away didn't even wake him up! I've seen him climb up the front, back, jump up and hit the window thinking it was open when it wasn't. That was actually pretty funny!
![]() RickM, I'm going to look into that a little more. If it goes on top of the car and waits for the cat to get up there before it goes off, well that is a little too late for me. I don't want him on the car AT ALL! But I'll check it out. Thanks!

Depend where you place the detector. Hopefully it has a sensitivity adjustment. There are a few variations on the market.

There was a cat here in NJ the other day, that took a 70 mile ride on the NJ turnpike in the wheelwell of a car. Just used up one of its lives!

I have two cats.
I don't know why, but they never get on our cars. I'll ask and see if they have any suggestions.

Buy a pitbull, that will keep the cat busy.

Car cover? Right now, I park mine in my apartment complex parking garage. I hate to have to clean it all the time, so I keep it covered. I don't have one of the heavy green ones (I'm not up on all the different material types), but just have one of the lightweight white ones. Actually does an acceptable job.

goto a pet store and buy a product called "bitter apple", it comes in a spray and is made to keep cats off of things (furniture, x-mas trees......porsches).
but some cats really like it, so do a towel first and see what the cat does.....if you don't introduce it to him he'll probably hate it (i.e.....leave it on the floor for him to discover himself) simply lighty spray your car cover (don't need to saturate it) and the cat should stay off.....and it's "humane". this is what my gf michelle said to do ![]()

Bell,
I already have that apple stuff. I used it when he was digging at the carpet for closed doors and it worked very well. I'll try that first to see what happens. Thanks!

If the apple doesn't work? I've often wondered if one could hook an electric fence charger to a car body...not fatal, but a few jolts should convince a cat to stay away...

I've tried most of the above...........my wife has a 330ic cab and the cats love the convertible top......warm and soft. A product called Scat Mat is a clear plastic mat with a filament running through it hooked to a 9v battery pack at one end. It's even waterproof for outdoor use. When anything completes a circuit across two of the filaments................zzzzzap...........just enough to teach them to keep off, adjustable in intensity. I move it from car to car; two incidents is quite enough to discourage future kitty lounging. Also placing in in front of a tire/wheel where they normally mark teaches them an invaluable lesson as well. Product is available on-line or at Pet Smart.........or is that, Pet Not-So-Smart.

Seriously - why not just a car cover? It's a good idea anyway.

dude; if you don't wash the car each day, the cover ends up looking worse than the slept-on convertible top. Also, the cat loves the covered top as much as the non-covered top.......makes it warmer and more cushy. Also, a better place to mark.

A thin type cover doesn't promote or deter him from getting up there. It just slides with him. So I tried a thick cover. This promotes him climbing on the car. He likes it even more on top cause it's warmer and softer. I haven't sprayed the bitter stuff on it yet, but I think that might be the trick. I'll spray it this weekend.

I sprayed a mist of apple bitter over the entire car cover and it doesn't bother him at all. I'm going to look into one of those ultrasonic motion things.
