OT...more on Motorcyles....more power

OK....so I'm talking to the local eurotrash MC shop owner and he says that Mikuni 32mm carbs are a bolt on for my V50 (500cc) Moto Guzzi twin.....coupled with the set of replica Dunstall mufflers I should see 12hp gain.....

Anybody have any opinions? Sources for pair of Mikunis?

He suggested Mikunis over 32mm Dells because jets and stuff for them are really scarce.

Mikunis or Keihins are the way to fly. Easy to jet and tune if you have the parts (i.e. different jets and needles). I can definately see how these would provide a performance increase. I just sold one mikuni of a set on ebay.... but I'd check motorcycle salvage yards and ebay for some carbs. New they are big bucks. Mikunis have always given me trouble free operation.

I'm not familiar with those mufflers so a grain of salt here, but IMO 12 HP is a rather large gain for such a simple mod. And I 2nd the Mikuni's, reliable, EZ jetting, available parts.

Yep....that's why I asked....stock is 47hp......12+ is mega increase for carbs and a pipe.

The v65 is 52hp.

got a pic? might be fun to cafe the sucker and just ride her like that. 50 HP will extend both the life of your license and you plus you can have oodles o' fun on a scooter like that.

Well seeing as those carbs seem to be for a smaller displacement engine, I'd be wary of their application in your 500cc bike. But it depends on so much stuff like cam, compression, exhaust, etc. Just be aware while tuning is straight forward and "easy," it can be very time consuming to swap out the jets, so try to find a baseline to start from where it will run before you go messin' with stuff. See if some 35's will work on your bike maybe? Either way that kit looks like a good set-up, the kit seems to be a good idea.

The latter.....my last Guzzi (20 years ago) was a 76 850 LeMans that I punched out to a 920. It killed 1100 cc rice bikes off the line and hung with them in the curves all while being 15 years older.

This is a vintage bike that I want some more balls out of, while not sacrificing it's reliability....I also won't be seeing myself in a mirror going down the road like other clone bikes.

I've never ridden a Guzzi myself though I do like them. The only Italian I've owned was a Duc.

But I'm certain there are rider's groups on the net just like this one. You should be able to pick up tons o' advice from one.

Mike,

Get the suspension working as best as possible THEN work on power. Until you can put down every last HP to the ground in every situation, you do not need more power. BTDT.

Mike, there was an evilBay ad a few days ago for some MotoGuzzi rear pegs. The ad said BUY THESE PAIR! Of course, the pic was a very shapely busty type, showing maximum cleavage, holding the pair of pegs.

The bidding was 3x the value of the pegs, because a signed pic was included.

P.S., I stopped bidding at $45......... I would have given you the pegs, but I would have to keep the pic.

Mikunis, all the way.

had them on both my Honda CB750 and CB550 (wish i still had that bike) very easy to tune and re-jet.

By the way, Tri-county motorcycle salvage in Ventura has a great selection of parts. You will find carbs there.

Mike!

That's them, I'd recognize those pair of turn signals anywhere.

Thanks, I forgot about them.....it's been 14 years since my last bike.

I had to put some mileage on the bike this weekend. CA doesn't like bikes or cars for that matter.... with less than 7500 miles on them being registered as used....even if the thing is 23 years old.
