I've been a fan of Neil for 30 something years and have seen him preform several times. The Rust Never Sleeps show in L.A. was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Neil will always be > Rockin In The Free World.

Anyone remember Neil laying it down with Led Zep? Jimmy and Robert just stepped back and let Neil go. Whoa!!

It's not important to "get" any particular artist. If you hate Neil Young and love Celine Dion, good for you. Just keep your boombox away from me!
Neil's music works for me. I especially like the soundtrack for "Dead Man" which was laid down in one continuous take...

He writes the music and songs as an expression or statement of himself and his feelings of life.
I don't think he really cares too much if anyone likes it as long as he does. He is an artist that can walk out with just his songs, guitar, harmonica and voice and wow a crowd. Not many an entertainer can even come close to putting it all together like Neil can.
