And at the front of every slow moving lane is a Forest Green Camry.

Wow. Kinda looks like a Maxima or Passat. Either way, it's fairly bland/ugly. I've always wondered why a company would spend hundreds of millions of dollars designing a car--that they know is going to cost their customers lots of their hard-earned money--and then go and make it so aesthetically blah. Did some stylist actually stand back and say, "Hey, that's a hot-looking thing I just made! I can't wait to spend $30K on one of those!" Still, it'll probably sell like crazy.

Toyota doesn't build cars. They build appliances. Some people would prefer to use appliances for transportation. More power to 'em.

FWIW, I think Toyotas are nice. I prefer other goodies, though.

Hmmmmmmm....not so sure I agree. I don't think our RX330 looks like an appliance. But yeah, Toyotas generally are pretty tame.

I should add I find that car pretty hideous. And they copied the 'Bangle Butt' on the new BMWS.

Once again visual mediocrity is snached from the jaws of opportunity.
Notice how the pedestrian impact laws have given the front edge of the hood a 2 - 3 inch raise to allow some crush space?
They'll probably sell a million of them. Ho Hum.

Looks like a Mazda 3 and a Nissan Maxima mated. Blah, inoffensive, probably will just blend in. Toyota sells thanks to reliability, quality, and resale value. They give the interesting cars to Lexus. Interior looks classy, very Lexus like (a good thing). They'll probably sell a billion of them, like usual.

With a few exceptions, notably Porsche, I can hardly tell new cars apart anymore.

Take a look at the rear end of the new Mercedes 500.

They are all going Japanese for some reason..

Boring.

FWIW my wife owns a Solara, which is a halfway decent car with halfway decent power (she's got the V6 version). When she went in to buy it, she already knew what she wanted. Even though it was more expensive, the sales guy kept trying to push her into a Camry. Finally she just said, "lookit, I came in for this (pointing to her sheet of paper with description) car. Either I'm leaving with this or with nothing. Choose, I have to be at work in an hour and I am walking out that door in 15 minutes - no ifs, ands or buts". God I loved her for that.

Point is, Toyota is more proud of their "Camry is the #1 selling car in America" statistic than anything else - even (apparently) the opportunity to sell more higher-priced cars (the Solara is several thousand more than the Camry). Kind of stupid I guess, but I guess economics in the auto industry don't make any sense to begin with.

She got the keys to the Solara in under 15 minutes, BTW.

The masses love bland. Oh and so do rental car companies. They both should love the new Camry.

My wife loves her Camry. She couldn't care less about more than something fairly economical, comfortable, and looks OK. The only other car she has expressed interest in is the Lexus 430SC. So given the choice, a Camry is OK with me.

The styling may be bland, but on so many other levels Toyota gets cars right. Obviously the reliability is a big factor, but ergonomically they do a great job of designing the interior for actual use. I used to work a job that required a lot of travel, and I drove a lot of poorly designed american cars. The seats were not as supportive, I'd bang my knee on the center console, controls were difficult to figure out and inconsistent even for a single manufacturer. Six years of that was quite enough to convince me never to buy an american car. I like to drive my wife's Camry. It is very comfortable to drive on our annual 400+ mile vacation trip.
