Caught myself being a hypocrite today...not the first time I'm sure.
There I was surfing Pelican this afternoon instead of preparing the BIG presentation I'm giving next week when I caught myself yelling at my kid to get off the couch and do his homework. Funny thing is, I'm more of a procrastinator than he will ever be. I never thought I'd be the "do as I say, not as I do" kind of dad. Are there other hypocrites out there? Misery loves company.

I see mine mostly in traffic.
I'll unmercifully chastise some dope out loud to myself, then a 1/2 mile later I'm doing same/similar as they. Ego pain is a b!tch, ain't it? ![]()

Standing out on my patio, smoking, lecturing my kids on the evils of cigarettes. (I finally quit 3 months ago.)
Yelling at kids about finishing homework, I still have garden lights to wire - for the last month.... Some of it does smack of hypocracy, but some of it is also "don't make the same mistakes I did" AFJ

It's better to be a hypocrite and a good dad than to be "fair" and a crappy dad, non?

I'm completely guilty. Raising kids will do that.
Funny story about my wife as told by my kids; My wife was driving the kids to school in pretty heavy traffic. At a stop light, someone tapped their horn to let the lead car know the light had changed. (This is a common thing in New York, but considered pretty rude in California) Anyway, my wife begins a sermon to the kids about how casual use of the horn while driving is unacceptable. People are in too big a hurry and all the stress and horn-honking lead to road rage and a whole host of other societal ills. Just as she was finishing her diatribe, someone pulled into her lane unexpectedly and nearly hit the car. In one rapid motion, she blasted the horn and screamed, "A**hole!!!!" The kids still tease her about that one.

Yep, if you don't find yourself in that situation with kids on a regular basis then you aren't properly doing the job.

Except with me it was ten years ago I was the tailgater, finger flipping, weaving through traffic, ahole, that I now roll my eyes at.
