Ultimate Video Review Thread

Having suffered through inumerable bad rental videos, I feel compelled to start this thread. Hopefully people will contribute new vid reviews, be they positive or negative. I'll kick it off with a video that surely has to be the worst of the year-

The Transporter 2. Bad. Really, really bad. Yes-my expectations were low, but we had watched everything else that had been currently released and we were looking for brainless action pablum. Unfortunately it exceeded or worst fears. Of course the acting was non-existant and the plot thread bare, but even the action sequences were cheap. You never saw a full stunt. They were either computer generated-badly, or choppy sequences of failed stunts that were edited together to resemble a continueous shot. Let's forget about plausibility at all. Cars crashing through concrete barriers in one scene and then showing up in the next scene looking like they just left the detail shop. Perhaps the worst offense was to make what would otherwise be good eye candy, a hitwoman in Fredricks of Hollywood garb, look very unsexy throughout the entire movie.

Overall-it's a long, boring Audi commercial. Instead watch any of The Hire series. Better, shorter films with cooler cars.

i believe we had two "what-movies-do-you-like" threads in the past. going down those lists would be a good start at checking out good films.

unless you are strictly interested in new releases

if you enjoy brit gangster flicks, watch "Layercake"

Hitchhiker's Guide has got to be the worst movie I have ever seen. And, I only sat through the first 10 minutes!

I felt that way for the original Star Wars... Could not talk myself into watching SW or the sequals/prequals because of the first ten minutes of Star Wars.

i have a couple obscure ones for you guys to try.

tree lounge- steve buschmi (sp?) he's a drunk that loses everything, his girlfriend, his job, bangs him best friends daughter while working in the ice cream truck he takes from his uncle after his death. sad and funny at the same time.

country man- a rasta man in jamaica hides two survivors from a plane crash from the jamaican goverment during an election. very good, voodoo and hemp smoke filled flick

Broken Flowers.

Bill Murray, pretty good funny guy. Instead of getting to be funny, he has long boring scenes staring at his TV, sitting in his dark living room and long drives to meet 4 or his prior girl friends. Stinkero.

I'm kinda referring to new video releases. It would be nice to have a reliable reference for like minded individuals and Ultimate Video Review is an easy search. My goal would be to stick to newly released vids and not older stuff. However, that might make for another good thread. I've got a ton of recommendations for older stuff starting with Bottle Rocket. I'll check out layer cake.

Hot on the heels of Lost in Translation. I know I'm practically alone on this, but I was bored to tears and I'm a big Bill Murray fan. He also lost me on A Life Aquatic.

I had a whole "I like old movies better" post, but I see you want new movies.

I actually liked the fourth Harry Potter and the new Batman. Beyond that, there isn't much Hollywood has put out recently that I want to see.
