Rogaine?

My hair is falling out faster than I'd like. I ***** about it to my wife, but I'm not sure how much it really bothers me. My wife says she's going to buy me Rogaine. I think the money would be better put in a jar for a Corvette when I finally lose enough to qualify.

Anyone have any experience with this stuff?

I've used the stuff for 6 or 7 years. It works for me. My older and youger brothers are balder than skeeter peeters and I have a full head of hair. You don't have to put it on twice a day either. That is a waste.

Try using a shampoo called Nioxin first, it definately stopped my thinning hair (keep in mind I'm 21, but have balding Iranian genes).

I used it before it was called "Rogaine". It was Minoxidil and it was some sort of tablet which the pharmacist had to grind up and add to a liquid (alcohol?). This was then applied to the scarp 3 times per day.

Did it work? Yes. My hair stopped falling out. I had a little re-growth, basically fuzz. But my main effect was stopping the fall out.

Why did I stop? I started when I was 21, senior year in college. I used it everyday for 3 years. I was 24, working in the middle of nowhere in Pakistan. Not a lot to do, so I swam at lunch (1 mile) and a 45 min weight work out everyday.

Now, you can't put this stuff on your head when it's wet. So, blow dry hair. And you can't leave it on wet, so blow dry again. And with my swim, I was applying 3 times per day and blow drying my hair 6 times a day!

One day, I looked in the mirror and asked myself "Am I this Vain?" Blow drying my hair 6 times a day to keep it? Nope. I quit and the rest is history.

I was like Red, and was one of the beta testers. It works but cost more money than I need hair. It all depends on how much you need hair versus money.

i tried it years ago, wife more concerned that i was, and got heart palpitations when laying down, just like the directions said might happen. screw it, tons of people out there with thinning hair, i'll fit right in.

Funny stand up routine at the Comedy and Magic Show the other night. Was about an aging single guy, and his 'routines'. Long story short, he'd slap the monkey after doing the Rogaine thing. I was already laughing so hard, I lost most of the punch line, but his parody of trimming the hair from between his fingers and getting his overgrown pubic hair caught in his pants zipper was hilarious.

I started losing my hair last year, normally I wouldnt have cared, but it was getting noticable. I've been using it for the last 4 months. I've noticed some re-growth on the top. Not sure if my age 27 has anything to do with the success though.

Well it sounds like I may be the have used it longer and may be older than anyone else here. It works. But only use it once a day. Like after you take a shower. It is dry in 5 minutes.

a whole bunch of chemical imbalance possibilities.

Or, perhaps, your body is lacking sufficient amounts of Rogaine.

No, seriously, have a doc (dermatologist, inernal med/GP, endocrindologist) take a look . . . have your fluids checked.

I'm guessing that you are more than likely right (MPB).

I was just throwing in another possibility. I know very little about the topic (thankfully) but do know someone who found and fixed a chemical imbalance.

I was starting to lose hair in my early 30s, started using it, and haven't lost any since.

And minoxidil does work on other kinds of baldness also, they just can't say it's for anything other than MPB, since there's no official FDA research to support it.

Hmmmmm.....thats pretty solid grow.....might have to look into Finasteride. I am still pretty solid, but my hairline is thining, as is a patch on top.....

Wow, that's pretty amazing results in that period of time, Brian. I thought that Propecia took 6 months before it started working! That is one of the reasons why I did not use it, even though I am a prime candidate. I know that might sound like a goofy excuse, but I really don't like taking a pill every day, and also I am cheap.

My hair did not start thinning until mid-30s, I am now 46 and I've lost probably 50% volume on the top, w/ the classic thinning of the crown and receding hair line. The loss happened pretty suddenly, (or so it seemed), and has not gotten much worse. Or more accurately, it has gotten worse but it is a really slow decline.

The really lucky guys are either the ones who do not lose their hair, or look good bald. Most heads look better w/ some hair on them. I have the extreme premature grey gene, so I really don't want the going bald one too. Makes me feel like I have 70 y.o. hair on a 40-something body. It may sound shallow, but growing older is a lot easier if you still look OK. Having your health is of course the most important thing. It's all tied into good old mortality.

So it sounds like finasteride + rogaine is the hot ticket? No danger in mixing the two treatments? Do they work independent of each other?

I fortunatly / unfortunatly have a very good looking wife who is carded regularly at 36 years old, so I want to keep up and not totally let myself go

We just spent 15K fixing her jaw and teeth that her parents should have done 20 years ago, so maybe I'm next

Guys, the really lucky guys are the ones who do not worry about it! I started going bald at 23 years old and worried about it for a while, tried the Rogane bit for a while then gave up. I do not need hair that much. The ladies for the most could care less and those who want a guy with "hair they can run their fingers through" are usually not the types I want anyway.

Its whats inside you about 99% of the time. Stop worrying about your hair!

Thanks for all the information. Me personally, I think I could take it or leave it, which is why I haven't researched this until now. I'd buzz it real short if it would look good. (Maybe I should try that before a long vacation!) When the top of my head gets burned....I feel really sick. I'd like to avoid that.

In reading these responses, it sounds like the Rogaine is something you need to put directly on your scape after a shower (and your hair is dry). Could you do it before bed? My morning routine, while brief, is complicated enough without getting a blowdryer involved.
