Anyone on here an FBI Special Agent?

I'm thinking about applying for a position, but I want to get information from sources other than the website and a recruiter.

Read "Cold Zero : Inside the FBI Hostage Rescue Team" by Christopher Whitcomb. In the first couple chapters he details his time as a new agent...

Very good read. You can get it at Amazon.com or B&N.

No tattoos. Better have excellent vision, too.

But the nice thing is, all FBI "agents" are "special".

There are no "just" agents.

I wonder if there used be just normal agents. Makes you wonder why they feel the need for that unqualifying adjective.

Yeah, I meet all the requirements - vision, drug use, physical fitness. I didn't seen anything about tattoos, but I could have just missed it. I don't have any anyway.

I'll have to pick up that Whitcomb book. Seems like what I need.

Most are highly educated, my niece was considering it after law school. One was a friend of the family. He was quite physically fit, not pumped. More like a gymnast.

According to X-files, the hierarchy is:

Agent
Special Agent
Field Director (?)
Assistant Director
Director

Sometimes I tell women I am an "undercover agent," but it's not true.

The last time I checked into it, the 4yr degree thing was mandatory, but that was a few years back.

Tried the FBI, CIA, and NSA, the NSA was the only one I ended up in much of a conversation with, but while they liked my resume on paper, they said there wasn't any way around not having a 4yr degree unless you were specially recruited. I'm definately not that special.

My uncle works at Homeland Security and wanted to bring me in, but same problem with the degree thing.

I suppose I could always go spend a bunch of money and get loans to go finish school, so I could have a shot at getting into an agency and take a 10k/yr or so pay cut. But then again, maybe not.

And now that I mentioned every agency, say hi to the spooks reading the thread.

i vaugely remember hearing that it's a cutthroat world, just trying to get in. joking aside, they're quite selective and people trying to get in are highly competitive. just be prepared. good luck.

Save your money on getting a(nother) degree. Spend it on intensive Arabic, Farsi, Urdu, Dari or Mandarin lessons and I bet you get bumped to the front of the applicant line.

My Uncle was FBI for 32 years, retired since 1980. He had a law degree. I think the other degree they like is accounting with your CPA. Also, I think they still will not assign you to the state you were born in, but that's probably less an issue today, particularly with military children.

From my research, it looks like they really like people with JDs, CPAs, and those with a lot of proficiency in a second language. I don't have these, but they also like people with a background in the sciences. I have a background in research physics, as well as experience with a gov't lab.

I wouldn't want to be assigned to Texas anyway. I wonder if that first assignment rule applies more now to the place you grow up than the place you were born...

I know a few and a second language is a very big plus on a resume, especially one "in need" these days. Spanish, any of the Arabic or Chinese would really help.

They are not looking for anyone good with guns, they can teach that and if you are keep it off of your resume. They do not want any Rambo's either.

They wanted to make me register. (Bleh) And then didn't like my gmail address. (Double Bleh.) Guess they want to keep riffraff like me out. They've succeeded.
