Hey Curtis, long time no see. At the risk of thread hijack, are you still into Aprilias?
|
HNY..Todd
I am. The Aprilia is in dry dock currently. I hope to break it out again as soon as "our So Cal" weather gets a bit warmer. When you're leaning over into those tight Angeles Crest turns, you want those tyres to be HOT & STICKY....:D

"IT IS the very finest SUV there is in the market". I could have sworn that of all SUVs tested based on comprehensive criteria, including price, the Nissan Xterra was rated #1. This included everything from Land Rovers, the Infinity, the Cayenne, and all the lessors (in price). But then the 'finest' doesn't necessarily mean the best - it's just 'finer'.

Ya can't polish a turd.

Curt - you bought a Cayenne!!?? I thought you were smarter than that! Didn't you read the 3 years worth of reviews from the all the Pelicans?? I'm sure you've found out by now they are right ..... mine was such a horrid POS I wound up using it as a tie-down for my guard dog. Worked OK for that. Although I've heard you can tie 2 dogs to a Toureg and save $15,000. :D

Wayne hit it on the head: Porsche doesn't give a rat's ass what you guys think of the Cayenne. In their view, if you want to buy one, great! If not, move on...
I see nothing wrong with this new Cayenne, as I saw nothing wrong with the first Cayenne. It's boxy, tall, and fast - like other SUVs, but more importantly is the Cayenne remains ubiquitous among upper-middle class to whom utility and name mean more than Chevy Tahoe and have the additional $50K to spend for a top tier Turbo Cayenne over a top tier Tahoe/Denali, etc. http://www.germancarfans.com/spyphot...804.001.1M.jpg FWIW: the vehicle pictured looks rather "standard." I'm certain the turbo version with larger rims and other trim details is a much better looking example. |
The concept looks a little like the Mazerati to me, or is that the other way around?

History repeats itself. I have no doubt in 10 years or whenever we have the next market crash, we'll see the same old Cayenne underpinnnings and Wiedeking begging for anyone to take an outdated Porsche off dealer lots. On the bright side, maybe someday I can pick up a fast family hauler for $10k. Whether or not the parts to repair it will be available is anyone's guess. |
That's a Gemballa GT 700, a modified twin turbo Cayenne.
FWIW: Maserati has signed an agreement with Volkswagen for the German company to share its Audi division's Quattro all-wheel-drive technology (originally meant for the still-born Maserati Kubang sport-utility vehicle concept) for Maserati's current Quattroporte platform. The agreement has been made on the condition that there will be no corporate espionage or reverse engineering, since Volkswagen owns two of Ferrari's direct rivals, Lamborghini and Bugatti. |

tcar, are you are saying the Mazerati is sharing a common platform or just the drive parts? |
I am glad that Porsche is going what is neccessary to remain a profitable independant manufacturer. If that means making SUVs, then so be it. But that doesn't mean I have to like it just because of the crest screwed to its hood.
In my personal opinion, it's styling is horrid. They still make me gag. And what makes it worse is that VW did such a nice job with the same platform. And as far as "best" SUV, sorry, but I have to go with the Jeep Wrangler, for those that actually go off-road (and don't need to carry much). Porsche is the best thing on pavement. Jeep is the best thing off pavement. I go off road, and I don't see Cayennes (or Hummers) there. |

It has never managed to reach even half the sales numbers it was supposed to. And it continues to die, as I've said in other posts. It had "novelty" factor when it came out, and that was when it was going to be the hottest. And even then, it piled up on the dealer's lots. Now that the novelty is gone, there is NO HOPE for increased Cayenne sales. No hope at all. What can they possibly do to increase sales of that anomoly? Lower the price? Already did that with the VW Golf engined version. Raise price? That doesn't move cars. Put a bunch of incentives on it like American car manufacturers to try to move them at lower profit margins. Well, that's one strategy Porsche has historically tried to avoid, but can't avoid it with the Cayenne and has been doing it, which is unprecedented for a relatively new Porsche model. It's a vehicle that simply makes no sense at all. And the market will prove it by rejecting it. Just an example, from the current Panorama: "Porsche vehicle sales surge despite lagging Cayenne sales picture." Cayenne sales are down through September 2005 23% from the same period last year. As I've been saying from Day 1, history will show that the Cayenne was a HUGE financial mistake for Porsche. They were at least 10 years too late to cash in on that party. |

Not all concept SUV's need to be boring or ugly - although weird may not be the best thing to do either.

Found this doing a Google image search on "Porsche crossover".
http://hvtm.totalcar.hu/car/l/porsche/699782.jpg From here: http://hvtm.totalcar.hu/index.php3?ID=9000&carID=3037&s=1 And this forum: http://hvtm.totalcar.hu/index.php3?ID=7001&topicType=1&topicID=3037 Does anyone want to take a shot at translating some of this? |
If people want to buy a Cayenne that’s fine with me. Who cares? Why is this such a problem for some of you? If I had $75,000 to spend on an SUV I probably wouldn’t buy one. Should that make the Cayenne owners mad?
Then again if Porsche was scooped up tomorrow it wouldn’t bother me a bit. They haven’t made anything in almost 10 years that even remotely peaks my interest. BTW Shouldn’t this be on the Cayenne board? |
