No terrorist attacks in the US for 4+ years. Who to thank?

Just curious who the Bush-haters thank for the absence of terrorist attacks in the past four years.

Please don't try to say that people don't want to attack us, with the daily "death to America" threats and anti-american sentiment throughout the middle east and, sadly, Europe.

For this we have to commend Bush, the Republican majority congress, the Patriot Act, and the department of Homeland Security for a job well done! Kudos for keeping terrorist bastards out of our country and preserving our way of life.

If Bush & Co. have to wiretap some known terrorist associates without having to go through some red-tape court approval process, that's fine with me. If they want to hold enemy fighters captured in the battleground at a prison in Cuba with better facilities than the tents they lived in at home, that's fine with me.

I feel just as free in my country as I did before September 11. The only difference I see as a law abiding citizen is a slight inconvenience at the airport due to stricter security checks. Fact...if you aren't associating with suspected terrorists, you're not going to be bothered.

What attributed to this remarkable absence of terrorist attacks here? Bush haters, who do you thank?

You're correct - there have been no terrorist attacks since 9/11. But I would think thanking Bush would over-simplify that result.

A more interesting statistic - which I have yet to see - would be how many terrorist attacks within the U.S. have been thwarted since 9/11, Bush's war on terror and the Patriot Act.

I thanked the Republican Congress, Patriot act, and Homeland Security as well.

>how many terrorist attacks within the U.S. have been thwarted since 9/11, Bush's war on terror and the Patriot Act.

I'd like to know that too, but that's probably classified info. Let's argue theoretically that none of Bush & Co.'s measures have worked. What attributed to this remarkable absence of terrorist attacks here?

A CIA documented 4 to 6 year cycle on attacks?

I think thanking President Bush would be pretty simple, too.

It would be really hard to tell exactly what prevented any possible attacks on our soil, because common people like us will likely never know even IF there were attempts or plans for attempts.

So you're saying that no one wants to carry out terrorist attacks on US soil except every 4-6 years?

A better explanation is that the only once in every 4-6 years does a terrorist slip through the cracks due to our measures to secure our homeland. That's a pretty damn good record if you ask me.

>common people like us will likely never know even IF there were attempts or plans for attempts.

Yep. But common sense tells me there are plenty, especially since 9/11. Could anyone seriously argue that nobody plans attacks on US soil except every 4-6 years?

Lets give credit where it's due and let the CIA and homeland security do their job as best they can.

Considering there have been a grand total of 2 terrorist attacks in the United States, it's reasonable to believe this was never a common occurrence.....it's not like there were attacks every month until Bush came into office or something...

Good grief, what a funny post.

Exacly what I was thinking -

I think a better question would be, during what presidents term did we lose the most American lives due to Terrorism?

Or During what President's Term did we spend the most in a war?

Now back to the question - I thank those that serv for the love of Country and are willing to risk it all while doing it.

Jay - I remember that CIA study from a while back, and I think it basically said that some terrorist groups tend to plan longer term and would organize detailed attacks over a 4-6 year period. They may want to kill you today, but they are willing to plan and wait and plan even more. Take 9/11 for example - thats wasn't a Friday night brainstorming session implemented the next weekend.

I'm sure that the US gov, CIA / FBI and any other groups with initials have stopped some attacks, but at what cost? Allegations of government spying, wiretaps, a network informants, files on ordinary citizens, detainment without charges - sounds like East Germany / Soviet Russia to me.

9/11 took 5 years to plan.

You know if there is another terrorist attack, watch these people, it'll be those damn "liberals" fault...or Rodeo's fault.....

The truth of the matter is, most of these things are discovered through word-of-mouth. And word-of-mouth is what alerted the authorities pre-9/11, but that info was ignored...(e.g., flight school owners contacting the FBI, etc.)

To believe that terrorists are that stupid to use a phone to communicate their "plans" and have since 9/11 is, well, completely unrealistic and underestimating the enemy. What's the phrase....know thy enemy...or something like that.

who do we thank for the previous years of no terrorist attacks?

I'd like to thank myself. I didn't attack anything during the past 5 years. Well, that I was convicted of anyway...

OK....

Bush, Thanks......

Now should I start thanking all the other presidents who never had a terrorist attack while in office?

I do my job everyday as I am sure all of you do as well. No one ever thanks me for what I do.

Should I start thanking Bush for running up the debt, a massive debt that my grand children will still be paying off?

I don't have grand children. They're pretty average. I'm not happy about the debt they'll inherit either.
