Angry Women and planing (rant)

Disclaimer: I have to admit that being middle aged and never married I am a bit relationship challenged.

Planing and guys example:
I travel on work trips with my co-workers (with separate rooms) and we a pretty good buddies. We are in Boston and it is Saturday, I'm an early riser so I get up and do a walking tour of town. Eleven thirty rolls around so I hit him on the cell phone.
"Hey you want to do lunch"
"Sure where are you"
"I'm at the aquarium"
"Okay I'll hop on the trolley and meet you there"
"Great, there's a pub across the street with a Guinness sign, I'll be in there"
"See you in about twenty"
All this with no planing...nada...

Planing and women:
I'm working on a Saturday and I call a lady friend to see if she wants to do dinner (on her day off). So she picks up and after thirty minutes of debating we agree to meet at six at the outback steak house. I get off work, drive twenty miles out of my way to meet her in her part of town and I get to the restaurant about ten minutes early. Now being saturday night the place is packed and she had mentioned that two of her friends might want to join us so I call her cell phone to see if I should make reservations for two or four.
Her phone ring through to voice mail and I leave a message.
I go in, reserve a table and sit down at the bar, I call again... get voice mail... tell her I'm at the bar.
She (finally) calls me, I tell her I'm waiting for the table at the bar.
It's now six twenty and they call me for our table, I sit down and call her again... get voice mail... "I'm at the table, walk in the door and turn right"
About five minutes pass and I see her walk in and head for the bar, I collect her at the bar and take her to the table.
Me "so what's up with your phone?"
Her "Oh I had it on vibrate in my purse"

Sorry I just had to vent.

Most guys I know are that way, pretty spontaneous. My wife is a super planner. She makes a spreadsheet and timeline for everything and has everyone's contact info in her PDA. But, she does tend to leave her phone on vibrate in her purse.

What a timely rant. There's a girl in my life right now who can neither plan ahead nor communicate. She'll tell me that she's working on a particular evening, so we can't get together. So I'll make other plans, knowing that she's working. Then she'll get upset with me later, because she came over to my place and I wasn't there.

Or she'll call and say she's on her way over. ... Hours later, she'll arrive, and after the pulling-teeth-interrogation will explain that she stopped at someone else's place on the way down. Couldn't you have mentioned that in your plan when we talked before you left? Couldn't you have apologized when you walked in the door 2 hours late? Couldn't you...?

(sigh) But the thing is that she's no different than any others I've dated. They may not _all_ be like this, but there's so many that it really seems that way sometime.

Aargh.

Scott, Scott, Scott.......

She had it on vibrate. Every time you called her, she got a (special) thrill.

What makes you think she was actually going to answer and stop the thrills?

You gotta think out of the box... er... or like you actually had one.

Yep, same here... she tells me she is totally over her head with work for the next week... no way she can go out...

So I entertain myself.

Then after two days I get an email "haven't heard from you are you mad?"

My favorite is she is so busy (i.e. workaholic) that we only go out once every two or three weeks (still haven't decided if that is a good or bad thing ) although we have been seeing each other for about a year so she wants to "know where we are at".
(warning, I have this thing about telling the truth)
I tell her she is a great friend and travel buddy but that is all we will every be unless she can give me more time.

She asks me to come up with a list of things we can do to improve our relationship.

Man, being married is so much easier. Most of us just do what the wife tells us.
Yeah, that's a lot simpler.

My belief (and it's based on factual experience) that most women are not detail oriented and most men are. Especially when it comes to personal day-to-day living.

Women just look at life differently than men. The whole Mars / Venus thing.

Wow, that sounds like the kind of thing an auditor from Naval Reactors would say. "Alright, Engineer Officer. I've finished a thorough review of your nuclear plant, and have discovered the following deficiencies..."

Did you mention open communication, improvement of basic planning capabilities, and more sex?

I hear ya brother! My wife pre-plans EVERYTHING in her head, whether it's a vacation, or a night out. She gets these pre-conceived notions on how things 'should be', then gets disappointed easily when things do not go right. Oh, and ya gotta love the "I'll be right down" comment from the upstairs bathroom where she is primping. I'll typically start honking the horn about 15 minutes later I guess I should be happy that she cares about the way she looks. Me? 5 minute shower, throw on the clothes and I am ready......

There may well be better, but I don't meet them often. I typically meet the kind of girls that guys here complain about. Blech.

The follow-on question: Where do you find girls who are classy, respectful, and trustworthy?

My wife is no good at planing, either. We had a door that was sticking...I even took it off the hinges for her so all she had to do was plane it to size and rehang. You think she could handle this? Nooooooooooo.

Oh wait, you guys are talking about planning. Forget it then.

You need a first generation import, with low miles...

Took me three tries to get it right!

Ed, that is hilarious!!! I wanted to make a comment but felt for the guy so I didn't. ( I was thinking the same thing, though.)

Neither I or my girlfrienc have a cell phone..
...or a PDA....
...or a daytimer....
...or a calendar in the apartment...

With a very MINIMAL amount of planning we manage to have better social lives and experience more interesting things than our friend who are burdened with all that crap.
