Any Of You Guys Dig The Datsun Z Cars

I have always loved these cars and have always had one...there has been great camradarie between the Z owners and 911 owners dur to the long and successful racing heritage.

Just thought I would ask....so do you guys dig 510s and old Zs???

What is there not too like?

I want a 510 with a SR20t in it. Something looks really good about that boxy car.

Love the old 240 and raced against the 510's when they came out. Damm things rust just like the Italian cars though and not many of them left.

My grandpa had a 510 as a everyday car. Very neat little thing.

My stepdad had a 1800 Roadster he sold for a good amount not too long ago. Never drove it, but it looked like a really fun little toy.

I got to drive a 280Z around while i was rebuilding the engine in my 325is. VERY fun little car, evn though it isnt as responsive as the 240Z i'd driven before, but it would keep up with most things out there today.

Luv 'em. I consider the 510s and 240-Zs Datsun's (note: not Nissan) hey-day cars. Sort of like the air-cooled 911s for Porsche.

You could wedge anything into a 240-Z. A rotary, a Chevy 350. My favorite mod was, in fact, the 350.

A friend of mine used to have on with a 350... quite a handful. A few years ago he managed to score a very early 240z with 20000 miles. It was essentially a new car.

Remember when Nissan was restoring 240z's and selling them, with a warranty? Wonder how many they sold.

I like all of the Z-cars except the one with the funny/awkward roof line, it was one of the latter Z-280's for a little more rear head room - yuk.

Datsun B-510, I had a girl friend with one, they both rode well...........just cropped some wood thinking about it (her not the car).

Mr. Daddy: I'd say that's a 240-Z. The rear views are Fairlady-Z style, IIRC, and the hood vents I have no idea about - Zs didn't come with vents. Maybe it's an aftermarket hood.

Edit: I took another look at it. The steering wheel is on the right side. Yes, it's probably a Fairlady Z - Datsun's equivalent to the '73 RS Carrera. Hence: fast...

Road and Track wrote an article on the 350-V8 Z, way back in the late 70s. It clocked 0-60 in 6.2 seconds, and put out about 327 hp. I think they needed to put in a Borg Warner four-speed, which wasn't a problem since all 240-Zs were four speeds already. I bet the article is somewhere on the Internet.

As far as restored 240-Zs, it was a gamble depending on who restored them. I do know Nissan sold a bunch.

Damn I love the internet:

Check this out:

http://zhome.com/rnt/v8.html

Scarab was who did the V8 240-Z conversion. They're like the Dr. Timmons of the Z-car world.

Also: google this: Scarab Datsun Z-car V8

There's more information than I figure Wayne has bandwith for.

The Z cars are pure car porn. When I can again afford a fun car, it will be between another early 911, a 3.0 CSi, and a 240Z. What a tough choice that will be.
