Canuckistan traffic court
Went to court to contest speeding ticket - cop in unmarked mini van tailgates approx 8 ft off rear bumper - I speed up a bit (apparently 10 mph over), move over to slow lane to let him pass - puts his lights on
Go to court - 18 months later - $400 in lost wages (1 day) . Cop doesn't show up. (Rude) Judge decides to postpone my hearing. This leaves me with a best case scenario (not guilty) - out $400.00. Worst case scenario - out approx $1100.00 (400.00 x 2 + 300.00(ticket). Is this the way the law works? Seems like my best option is to now plead guilty and be out $700.00, plus the points. Any comments/suggestions regarding this scenario? |

CCat,
Considering some of your past posts, I thought about seconding Randy's comment. That said, I would think about getting a lawyer and telling them that its already cost you $400 and that you are coming after the court to pay.Your time is worth just as much as theirs (really had to bite my tongue on that one) but sorry, just because the cop did not show up it should not cost you money. joe

With all of your complaining about everything wrong with my country, here is one thing that is apparently quite different, and in our favor. Cop doesn't show; case dismissed. No postponement. We also have the right to a speedy trial; 18 months delay would probably get it dismissed as well. It is better to be a citizen than a subject...
I know what I would do here, but it sounds like if you are going back to court, none of it applies up there. And $300 for 10 over? What would a lawyer cost? It might be worth it to get one now, and see if they can get it dismissed. It would be a slam dunk here; not sure about your country.

U can always run away to Mexico as well -- you may wanna consider that since that what all leftie pinkos do in adverse situations.. At least there they can't afford to have an army so you can't complain anymore.

CCat,
I find it very interesting that the only person to give you constructive help is one who you consistantly oppose. Hope you get this figured out. Hope as well that someday life and your views smooth out as well... JoeA

Hmmm...where are all the lefties piling on creaturecat?...One could easily conclude that the lefty venom in my similar thread was personal....Their true motivation and dark hearts have been revealed...The intolerant left, hate filled and foaming at the mouth.
I wish you luck on your ticket cat...It is a scam made worse by Canada's endemic socialism. Doesn't welfare cover traffic citations? ![]() |

Thanks buddy...Yes, speeding on open roads should be punishable by jail time...Sorta like on the Autobahn.
$184 dollar fine, a joke on every level. |
