Watched a car get broken into today

I was on the fourth floor, looking over the parking garage, that is three stories. This is parking for the boats that leave for Catalina, so we see weird stuff all the time.

I see a guy throwing something at this Ford, didn't look right. He walked away and came back a few minutes later.

He kept throwing this little white thing at the drivers window, after a few tries, I see it break.

We call Security, Parking Garage, and run out after the dope. I should have taken the stairs, the wait for the Elevators was a killer.

The guy and gal, drive up to the parking booth, push the gate open and drive away, plate was covered with tape, so they weren't able to get the plates.

So, the guy was throwing bits of a white spark plug at the glass, someone said it will break the glass without any sound, does that sound correct?

Michael

Not really...it makes a decent pop, but it's a fair bit quiter than doing it any other way.

I've heard that before too. A pebble will do the same thing. Anything small that hits it just right will do the trick. And just like was said, the window makes a loud pop. I watched someone accidentally do it to a friends car one time while his friend was the car.

Bummer that you guys weren't able to get any better info on it.

The idea with the whole spark plug thing is that the porcelain makes a very high pitch sound that does a Memorex on the glass.

Years ago the instant glass disintegrator was the spring loaded pilot-hole punch.

When working in White Plains, NY ('80-'81) I had a 2nd floor office and happened to look out at my new 924 as some crack addict attempted to break in. Long-short, caught the guy and sent him to the pokey. Left his wife and two infant kids to fend for themselves. What a shame.

The reason he initially threw the plug at the window and walked away was to test for a car alarm.

A crackhead in '81? Talk about a trailblazer, the rest of the world didn't see crack cocaine until about '85. He must have been in the CIA.

Yeah I thought about that ....it was more likely heroin. Actually, I'm not sure what it wasl. The cops just called him a dope addict.

In New York in the mid 80's a friend of mine was sitting in his classroom in tech school. He glanced out the window to see a guy waist deep in his VW Rabbit* he jumped out of his chair, grabbed his chair and ran for the street. A couple of classmates followed. He ran towards them and the driver jumped in his RX-7 and tore away, he recieved a parting gift, the classroom chair was thrown through his back hatch and shattered it.

The waist deep guy wasn't so lucky. The 3 guys grabbed him and beat him silly. They also took his license out of his wallet and wrote down his address. After they were done beating him they called the police and had him arrested. My friend claimed waist deep attacked him and thus the beating waist deep recieved.

They were also able to get the tag number off of the RX-7 and through a relative were able to trace the address of the driver. He recieved a visit and beating as well.

Justice served.

*VW Rabbit - This guys VW was a very cool car. He had worked the entire car over for track use. He used to run on the same track with Paul Newman and his Datsun back in the early 80's. His VW had tons of work done to the engine also, I remember Titanium Valves and other exotic goodies in his car. It was his pride and joy and to see someone in it tearing it apart brought up a rage.

Didn't smoking rock, freebasing and chasing the dragon start in the 70's. Pretty much the same as crack.
