Nothing says engineering prowess like a trebuchet. King of battlefield artillery for 300 years!

RANDY P 02-21-2006 08:57 PM

Those rock!...

HardDrive 02-21-2006 08:59 PM

LMAO!!!!!!! Instant classics.

"Ya, VW holding down da engineer house, ya"

Hilarous and tearing the tuners to shreds.

If VW could actually build a decent car in stock form, I wouldn't have a job.;)

Fortunately they can't, so I do.:)

But you just couldn't avoid ricing it up for the baggy pants crowd? I used to love VWs. My first car was a Scirocco, then a boring 8V GTI, then one of the early VR6 Golfs. What the hell has happened to VWs? Now it's all body kits and silly wheels.

I dunno about the MkV, at a porky 3300 pounds it's not light, even running on 225's and 200Hp on tap, I can't see how it's any better than what they had other than styling.

That's what the market is for VW, 16-30 year olds who want as much bling as they do performance. The upwardly mobile of this demographic buy an Audi.;)

Just like every other auto manufacturer, VW increases the horsepower to help offset the extra weight that is in each corresponding chassis.

I agree, the Mk1 cars were/are great. I had a Mk1 Jetta GLI that was down to 2,000 lbs and had the 4K close-ratio trans with short ring & pinion with 160 bhp on tap from a high-compression 2.0L 8V way back in the late '80's. That was a fun ride, long before the heavy VR6 and sublime 1.8T came along.:)

I actually like the look of the A5 GTI, but there is no way I would spend money to buy one. I want a car that will last at least 10 years and 100k+ miles. The new VWs can't do that. As soon as my last GTI hit 5 years, it was no longer reliable. At 8 years I couldn't afford to keep it on the road and it had more rust then my '70 914 (with lots of rust).

I'd buy an A1 GTI long before I buy a new one again. I find it funny that I see more A2 cars on the road than A3s.

Me too. Just try to find a nice not rusty, not molested one. I've been keeping an eye out for years. Future collector car potential. Built 10s of thousands but only a few remain...
