Clk 55 Amg

I am slowly realizing that my car will not be a practical daily driver when it's finished so as I was bored this afternoon I checked e-bay motors and saw that you can get a CLK AMG for under $30k.

I need 4 seats, but not necessarily a sedan. I don't like BMWs (when u have a Porsche there is no need to compromizse with a Bimmer).

Any of you guys had experience driving one of them? I would expect silly torque, fairly soft ride, understeering set up.

Can u put 2 baby car seats in the back?

The power in the CLK 55 is addictive. But, since the car is on the heavy side, it does understeer like a pig.

It will be more like a cruiser for me.... you know to take the lady out for dinner, the little girls (as in my kids) to school etc.

Or maybe I should just get a 320 for half the price...

I love the CLK55, its raw brutish power is simply staggering, for a cruiser not many can hang with it.

I have driven many CLK430s with the AMG upgrades and that by itself is simply delightful......almost bought one recently.

A 320 does not EVEN compare....apples and oranges

I look at it a different way. The Porsche a nd BMW compliment each other perfectly. They're different cars intended for a different purpose. Both keeping the enthusiast driver in mind. I can't say that about MB.

I had e55 AMG, power is amazing and the torgue is out of this world.
Yes it's heavy but you will not track it, for the street it's one of the best, overall balanced 4 seater out there. Brakes are super car like and the suspension is really comfortable.
I don't know how modified is your Porsche, but CLK 55 AMG maybe faster
S4 has no chance compared to AMG (unless you need AWD)

If I could, I would get this for everyday commute

Form me the M3/M5 are too much of a compromise. Great if you only have 1 car... but I would never take a 4 seat sedan for a spirited driving the way I intend it.

For me the Benz would fill different needs from the 911. Practicality, luxury, elegance, exclusivity. The BMWs score less in these categories in my personal view..

The S4 is a valid alternative, but I prefer the look of the old CLK and I am not a big fan of forced induction.

Yep the new CLK-DTM is incredible. Wait until they stuff the new 6.3 AMG built V8 in there.....

As per the 55 being faster than my 911 I am not so sure... The Porsche will have 40-50 more HP and weigh around 2,300lbs...
I think it would be tough for the Benz to keep up even on a straight line

My E 55 is much, much faster than my Porsche. Faster 0-60 that the 997 or even the new 500 HP M5. Why? The supercharger creates over 500 ft-lb of torque. You hit the gas and get a violent shove. If I disengage traction control, the rears spin freely till I let off the gas. Plus, it has beautiful road manners.

I remember a review stating that they were a modern luxury muscle car with manners. It might be a good fit, that sounds like what you are looking for. I would find a Mercedes BBS first and talk to them, find out what typical issues they have, etc. Me personally, I think they are simply timeless shapes, especially the AMG. It will be a good looking car for a long time to come. I looked at a 430 a while back, it had pretty good sized back seats, probably big enough for forward facing car seats.

The problem with this forum is that there is alot of speculation from members "who heard this" and "who heard that", if you don't have any specific MBZ experience as it pertains to the topic posted (question asked) please STFU. I posted a smiliar topic recently, and the lack of intelligent replies was VERY evident.

Back to the CLK...I say go for it. If it makes you feel better MBZ (peace of mind) will offer you an extended warranty to 10years for less than 3grand.

I recognize that MBZ quality has come down over the past few years, but looks at Audi..after 100K everyone dumps them as that is about the time that the electrical gremlins wake-up from hibernation.

I roll with a crowd of guys that own high end BMWs, Audis, etc etc and this topic of discussions comes up frequently, our consensus is that the MBZ will long after the BMWs and Audis are sold \ traded-in.

Good luck with whatever you decide!
Regards - Yasin

So what qualifies you as an authority on the subject? This is a Porsche and BMW board, you can't expect everyone to be a Mercedes expert, hence my suggestion to check out a MB BBS. From what I have heard and read about current MB quality, I don't believe I would like to own one of them after 100k either.

I should have stuck with that thread. Oh well, at least the $17k MM scam artists chimed in to bail him out. By the way, what ever happened to that car, is it still on EBay?

oh Lord.

Your homies are wrong - 97+ Benz is about as firm on used value as a rotten Watermelon - BMW actually is the one of the three mentioned that has the highest resale.

I "roll wit" a bunch of guys who own high end BMW's and Benz's too- Oh wait? I actually owned / currently own several of both!

Quit being such a dork about it. It's a Porsche site. did your feelings get hurt or something?

I don't have anyone to roll wit. Is that a problem? What should I do?

Edit - guess that should read "wit whom to roll" for the grammar sticklers....
