Thumbs up Rossi challenges Alonso to the ultimate duel

**********************Go Rossi Go********************

"MotoGP champion Valentino Rossi has challenged Formula One champion Fernando Alonso to a high-speed duel to see who is quickest.

The 24-year-old Renault driver said last month he was unimpressed by Rossi's Formula One tests for Ferrari and felt it would be very hard for him to switch from two wheels to four.

"He might finish fifth or even get on the podium some time but I could do the same on the bikes if I was given enough time to practise," the Spaniard told a news conference.

The words appeared to have stung Rossi, who was quoted by British weekly Motorcycle News on Wednesday as saying he wanted to put Alonso to the test.

"I read that if Alonso is able to make some practice then he can put a MotoGP bike on the podium with me," said the 27-year-old Italian.

"Well, I think we should drive a Formula One car, a World Rally car and a MotoGP bike, add the times together and then we will see who is the fastest."

Alonso told Gazzetta dello Sport that he was ready for it.

"Valentino triple challenges me? I find it something very enjoyable. So I reply I'm ready for it."

Rossi, winner in motorcycling's top category for the past five years, has tested repeatedly for Ferrari including a session in February with other drivers.

The charismatic Italian has also competed in rallies and Ferrari's seven times world champion Michael Schumacher has said Italy's highest-paid sportsman has the talent to make the switch to Formula One.

Alonso won Formula One's season-opening Bahrain Grand Prix at the weekend."

Alonso thinks he can compete with Rossi on a MotoGP bike? He's going to look like a fool, especially if Rossi can put in a decent performance in the F1 car, which even Alonso thinks he can.

Pride go'eth before the fall? Or something like that?

Too bad Mike the Bike or John Surtees aren't up for this anymore. How about a true "race of champions" series? Bikes, open wheelers, NASCAR oval, sprint cars, motocross, drag racing, GT cars, desert racing in buggies and on bikes, etc. One race each in a dozen different venues.

I was thinking about that. You know what would really wake my car up? A stripped interior, 968 Turbo S engine and tranny, roll cage, carbon fiber body panels painted Copenhagen blue, Ohlins suspension...

Nah but serioulsy, I'll put it back together some day.

edit()

I think I forgot to mention it needs a steering rack, control arm, and front fender. :-/

Mixing together an ego like that with 250hp/400lbs/2 wheels and limited experience sounds very scary.

Boom!
Exactly my thought half way through the first post.
If this becomes any more serious, someone who cares about the man would be smart to toss Alonso into an ice cold shower.
Awakening is a good thing.

Any of those *mixed martial arts* contests would either result in death or some embarrassingly slow times on the bikes. (Or both).

Actually, same could be said for the F1 cars, etc., but especially the bikes.

I was thinking of the Swapping paint show they did where Jeff Gordon and Juan Pablo swapped cars at Indy.

Jeff got to run Juans car around the Grand Prix circiut and if I remember correctly was lapping it at the pace of the Minardi's and only a couple of seconds off Juans times.

The Juan took Jeffs car out and was gracious to say if was a real drivers car.

Jeff jumping around like a little kid after driving that F-1 car was funny.

I remember that show, but I remember it differently.

In my foggy memory, jeff had to have extra pads placed on the rails at the sides of his helmet to keep him from getting knocked out by the g-forces in the F1 car, and he had trouble getting the braking points right, he was repeatingly hitting the brakes hundreds of yards too early.
Montoya on the other hand, was having a blast in the big, heavy, slow stock car, sliding it around like a toy.

I came away with the impression that it was easy to handle a stock car when compared to a F1 car.
Or maybe that was just how I wanted to remember it

I' ve tracked 2 and 4 wheels, and find 4 wheels a hell of a lot more forgiving.

If you guys think that Flavio Briatore would let Alonso anywhere near a MotoGP bike during this season you're nuts. At the end of the season, he might actually start the bike for him, since Alonso is leaving Renault

Or, that The F1 stops soo much quicker that getting used to its braking distances takes some time.

Alonso says NO

World champion Fernando Alonso has politely rejected Valentino Rossi's proposal that the pair go head-to-head to settle the question of who is quicker.

Rankled by Alonso's claim that he could join the MotoGP ace on a podium, rider Rossi challenged the Spaniard to a battle waged on motorcycles, Formula One and rally machinery.

Asked if he had heard about Rossi's dare, Renault's 24-year-old Alonso said in Kuala Lumpur: “Yes, but I don't know if really said it.
If he did, I will have to say no - I am totally focussed on my job at the moment…”

So, as the chatter increased, Alonso got focused right quick.
Good for him.

no big deal but I think the GP bike weights much less then 400 lbs... stock 06 Suzuki GSXR 1000 (182 HP) weights 368 lbs...

Alono is a cock... Valentino is God

My guess is Alonso couldn't get within 10 sec a lap of Rossi. It's a lot harder than it looks.

Weight is about 325 lbs/ 250 Hp--->>> 1.3 lbs/hp + rider Yikes!
