Keyboard shortcuts
While browsing with Mozilla, and then typing a post, I accidentally hit some keys that brought up a window I've never seen. I can't do it again. The window seemed useful as it contained every icon and image displayed on the page separately. Anyone know what I did?

You know that you can still use your old DOS shortcuts even with the latest windows OS?
Hold Control and "C" to copy highlighted text. Control and "V" to paste it. Control and "X" to cut it. Speeds up working a lot if you are an old DOS person...

Yep, those work.
DOS, it's been a while, but I remember editting himem.sys, config.sys, etc... I started with 3.2 on a Tandy 1000TX with an 8MHz 286, 640k RAM, 3.5", 5.25", 16color Tandy graphics and eventually a 32MB Hardcard from Meghaus.

'Alt-T' then 'I' brings up page info, which gives you a tabbed window with one tab each for links, media (images), etc.

I have been using CTL C and all that stuff for as long as I have been on computers ('95, with Windows '95). I would like to think I could do w/o the mouse. I watch people work the mouse and see a lot of time wasted. The fastest people I see on Exel seldom use the mouse and they are quick. Last edited by Zeke; 03-30-2006 at 04:27 PM.. |

The less "travelling" your hands have to do (keyboard to mouse and back) and the less eye-hand coordination needed (finding a place to click) the faster you'll get work done. It's why the hardcore guys still use 'vi' and 'emacs'.

I far prefer keystrokes to mousing. I spend all day in Excel and hardly ever touch the mouse.
That's one of my beefs with Macs, actually. Office for Mac doesn't seem to allow a lot of keystroke shortcuts, not as many as Office for Windows. Or maybe I just don't know them.

Anything in drop-down menus can be operated from the keyboard via the 'accelerator' keys, identifiable by being underlined. You can also operate drop-down menus by typing F10 and then using your arrow and Enter keys to navigate...

Maybe I'm missing something. One thing that really annoys me is that certain dialogue boxes don't seem to want to respond to tabbing between options. Others do. Really irritating. Of course this whole web thing in general sucks...try typing in a reply to a thread sometime without using your mouse to hit "submit"...

Photoshop is another app where learning the keyboard shortcuts saves HUGE blocks of time. Last time I looked there were 200+ of them to learn so there is a steep curve.
