Barry Bonds and the MLB HR record

I have been hearing a lot about this guy lately, and am wondering what the consensus is. He almost certainly passes both Babe Ruth and Henry Aaron for the #2 and #1 spots on the all time list, how should these events be recognized?

Who gives a rip? Grown men playing a kids' game for far too much money. The entire game has been tainted for so long, why make a stand now?

It sets a hell of a poor example for our kids. Personally I feel that they should have done drug testing years ago and if caught 3 times, thrown out forever and any/all records erased.

Bonds keeps squirming out of it but from where I sit he now has to prove that he was clean, or risk losing any records he has or the chance to set new ones.

Until he's caught, its all speculation. Honor him for his achievements.

I've stopped caring about sports where the fans care more about the outcomes of the games than the players do.

you can say a lot of things about Barry but he still has to hit the ball...

I voted for the asterisk

Hank Aaron did it the right way, even when there were a lot of haters as he approached Babe Ruth's record. He's all class. Bonds is a chump, a cheater, and no class.

I totally agree! I hate when those MLB pinheads complain about not making enough money. I don't mind when people make large sums to do something....just don't complain about it.

Threadjack: Who was the idiot NBA star (Sprewell?) who complained that his $14 mil wasn't enough to feed his family? His team shoulda revoked his contract and dumped $14 mil worth of food on his front lawn.

Back to the topic: At the same time, TyFenn, you're right. Steroids may allow a player to cheat somewhat, but the 'roids are worthless without still going to the gym, working out, etc. Bonds (and others) may work their butts off, but the results they get are out of proportion to their natural abilities.

Who cares about Bonds.

Albert Pujols is the one to keep your eye on this year.
3 games
3 Homeruns.
No steroids.

You might really believe that, hmmm.

I quit watching baseball about the time they cancelled the World Series due to strike, have not watched any MLB at all since then.

I am more interested in the societal impacts of this stuff. As I said before, he was the best athlete I have ever seen perform in person. Hitting a baseball is not that hard, never was for me anyway, all you have to do is pay attention, watch how the ball spins as it leaves the pitcher's hand and hit the ball. Same with fielding, you can see where it is going to land when it leaves the bat, or I always could.
