Anyone here know anything about methanol engines?
I'm trying to put some research together into what's required to convert an engine to methanol fuel. I know stoich. ratios are different and would require re-mapping and so-on but I need information on fuel delivery systems, pumps, etc. Any good resources or info. appreciated.

I ran methanol (with a little nitromethane mixed in) in my drag boat many moons ago.
Methanol has a lower BTU rating so it produces less power than gasoline........... but...... It burns cooler and you can run a very high compression ratio without pinging. So if you want to build a methanol burning engine, shoot for 15 to 1 compression or high boost levels (turbo or supercharger) to get the real power. Stoich IIRC is closer to 8 to 1 on methanol but don't hold me to that. I was playing with nitro and that might have changed what i remember. Cooling won't be much of a problem but the oil will need to be changed often because of contamination. |
