Not terribly good at interfacing with other humans.

I remember the days before everyone dressed casually at work. People would say to me "The let you dress like that at work?" (Shorts and Hawiian shirt.) I tell them yes, except for Friday which is clothing optional day.

Ha! I always got the same question from friends that I didn't work with. My answer was, "Anything goes as long as I don't expose myself."

I tell them that as long as the reproductive and feeding organs are covered, it's all good.

Yep, it takes a "special" person to code. I'm glad you guys are around though. But it's probably best if you stay in your room in the back away from the rest of the people. They usually do that with us network engineers, but for some reason at my current company they want us front and center so they can parade the customers past. I think we often make them regret that.

Let's not hold back here, the entire IT community is a bit wacky. Nobody conforms. I wear Levi's and t-shirts to work and to clients offices. It's not like anybody see's me. I'm either under a desk or in the server room. Heck, I don't even shave everyday.

You should see me at the office when things get out of control. I'm a cartoon character that is ready to explode. When I get pissed at my boss, I come in wearing my t-shirt that covers every possible use of the F word.

Yep, I shave once or twice a week. We used to wear jeans and comfy clothes, but they changed that when we moved to the new building and we all hate it.

I used to have a 1 1/2 foot long braid down my back (shaved bald now). I was at a bar once for a business afterhours deal. A guy walked up to me, looked at my braid, and said, "you must be a Cisco guy." I always thought that was pretty funny.

There is NOTHING more wierd than an Antenna engineer. Trust me on that one. Developers look like 3 piece suits from wall st in comparason. They will not only agree with this, they are almost certainly proud of it.

Hey! IMO, there are developers and programmers. Developers know the right way to get stuff to fit together, fast, on budget, and in a way to put money into their pockets, with which they buy cool toys.

Programmers are more of the type you describe; the hard-core, academics that argue over which construct saves cpu cycles with 1 million iterations. These are the guys that don't get laid as often as they should, and not the types of guys that would even be on this forum. These guys do not belong ever talking to customers.

I am a classic SW dev, build web-based apps and design complex database schemas for the fortune 1000. I just wrote a cool little EDI agent in less than a month to interface a good customer with Home depot, saving them 15 hours of human time every week punching orders. Put enough to buy a used carrera into my pocket, and will pay for itself in less than a year.... AND I worked directly with the customers, without scaring them.

What's an API? Must be some of that new-fangled web java junk. If you want to communicate, just make sure both modules have the appropriate variables in their Linkage Section.
