chose a gun... got the FAL

A while back I posted about which gun to buy - I was tied up between a FAL and a Browning Hi Power.

Got the FAL, picked it up from my dealer Saturday. Haven't had time to go to the range and adjust the gas system, etc. but that will be soon.

Belgium.... Not just good beer. If I were FN I think I would use that for a slogan.

An excellent choice. A handgun is what you use to fight your way to your MBR*.

Unfortunately, mine is not Belgian - no pre-ban collectables for me .

Century reciever, Green Mtn barrel, US made handguards, buttstock, pistol grip, and H/T/S. Rest of it is a Rhodesian Army parts kit.

That is the one to buy! The price is right! I'd like to get a JLD, once I have the financing available.

Back in 1968 the FN FAL was banned from importation because it was considered to be a Machine-Gun. However the ones allready in the Country were Grandfathered in, and there was a cutoff serial number in effect.

A friend of mine had several FALs that fell in the grey area of serial numbers..the ATF came and took the guns away. My friend sued to get the guns back...The attorney for the govt claimed that they were machine guns and thus illegal to own. My friends attorney said whats the difference between serial number xxxx and xxx1 they are identical guns yet one is considered to be a Machine -Gun and the other a Semi- Auto. My friend won, the Judge admonished the ATF in a harsh tone not to bring anymore frivious suits into court regarding the matter...and that is why the FAL is still available on the commercial market.

The ATF needs some serious oversightly ***** slapping. The ATF is NOT a part of the Judicial branch, and thus has no power to interpret laws... yet they do regularly.

I think much stronger action is needed. Firts, the BATFAE8 needs to be shut down immediately, and all BATFAE operatives need to be detained or arrested and screened for their history with the agency. Those that have violated any law, and that would apply to most, need to spend time in jail, life for some of them. The rest need retraining, and to work towards restitution to America.

I'm not sure you can make the case that the BATF is any worse than other federal and state agencies. Cops falsely arrest people all the time, IRS agents harass people with abusive audits, highway departments don't fix the potholes, etc etc. I hear the government might even be wiretapping on domestic calls without warrants.

Anyway, I'd like a FAL. They seem like "real" rifles that fire a "real" round. I'd much rather have one than a AR-15.

You can never go wrong with that!!

7,62x51 is a great caliber, I had and used a few of those. If I cannot get a real FN one I will choose the Steyr or the L1A1 models of the FAL, the 'paratrooper' is not 'bad' either.

Great gun, great caliber, you will enjoy
