The poop gets treated and pumped back out to sea once the bacteria is at acceptable levels. I saw this in a cartoon once.

It goes to a sewage treatment plant where it enters a skimmer that seperates the floating stuff from the sinking stuff.
The solid parts are sent to a large digester tank where they are allowed to decompose. The digester tank gives off methane gas which is used to generate electricity in most cases.
The liquid is further strained, then it goes to large aeration tanks where bacteria eats most of the remaining organic substances.
Eventually it is cleaned enough so that they can add a bit of chemical and then it goes to the ocean or river or wherever.

After the solid parts are done in the digester they are pumped through a filter press that dries it out. What is left is used as fertilizer or dumped in special landfills (AKA Bakersfield).

I consulted on a design project for a couple of sewage treatment plans in the mid 90's.
So,.... from now on you can't say I don't know *****

I've always been taught to flush twice so that my poo-poo can make it all the way to Texas.

Now thats just plain ugly. I'll cut you some slack cuz you live in a territory that can barely claim itself to be a state!

As for the destiny of poo - some processing plants will take in and compress it into a solid cake about the size of a hockey puck. It them gets burned or land filled.

I just shot a tomato seed out my nose...

My question has always been: Why does poop have to smell so bad?

Funny you should ask this question. Have you checked out " Libs and Honor, why Shauns $500 check bounced?" I think some of the poop is being diverted there.
