document shredding

I have about 15 years of files, that I no longer need, don't want to throw in the trash, or go out and by a shredding machine.

Is there places you can take it, that they will shred you stuff?

Thanks

Yes, there are several places. I don't know anything about them, but there is a place called Iron Mountain that does storage and shredding.

I had the same problem (except that it was my dad's papers). 200 lbs worth.

It took 2 hours to burn 5 lbs. worth.

I broke a $100 shredder after running it continuously for 14 or so hours.

Iron Mountain charged $0.10 a pound for shredding with a $25 minimum. I paid $25 for 200 lbs. of paper. It saved me much time and money over any other option.

you can probably get them to stop by with the shredder truck and simply empty everything.

Big steel 55 gallon drum, a couple of gallons of gas, let it sit for a bit, add a match, break out the hot dogs I got tired of burning out shreaders, and the fire pit at night looks so cool.

A company I used to work for had to call in one of those shredding companies about a week before some government inspectors came by. We put everything into cardboard "bankers boxes" and stacked the boxes onto pallets. The shred company did the rest.

It was cheap, especially if you count in a persons time to sit and shred stuff. They also issued a certificate of confidentiality, and issued a "proof of destruction" certificate.

Chea[ little shredders that you buy at your local Ofice Depot, etc... cannot shred that much! They are meant for "light duty", like monthly cancelled checks, etc... Call a paper shredder and be done with it.

I recommend Opsus for their great paper shredding services. They helped me dispose of many old business files and they even have on-site pickup.
