Anyone own a Remington 870?
I need to pickup an inexpensive shotgun this week for an event on Sat. My father has my shotguns in Michigan, so.....
I was thinking an 870. This is for upland bird. Problem? I only have porsches to drive next weekend. If anyone owns one, can the barrel be removed easily? I assume so. I need to break the gun down so it will fit in a smaller case. The idea of getting pulled over by the state patrol with a 12 guage riding shotgun (pun intended) is not appealing.... Hmmmm.....is the front trunk of an SC 50 inchs from corner to corner? Now if I had a softcase.....hmmmmmm....

I've got an 870, and the barrel is easily removed by unscrewing the round cap nut (by hand) on the end of the tube magazine. Takes five seconds, and can be reassembled in the same amount of time. Great gun.

There is a vid around of a commercial type demo of the new no-kick auto shootgun. The shooter was as good as Annie Oakly.
The shootgun is amazing imo. Maybe it's on the Remington site ?

Have an 870 Express. Agree with Danskman. Very easy to disassemble, almost too easy.

Thanks guys.
Is there any point in investing in the Wingmaster? The differences between the wingmaster and the express appear to be cosmetic. I don't care about pretty.

i have a few 870's. very nice.
but i dont shoot them anymore. i went with all of my older 1100's. i have various barrels. but lately, i am a under/over man. i am never going back. the funniest is when you switch between the 1100 and the 870. nothing dumber than trying to "pump" a 1100 and "not pumping" an 870. all hunting creds go out the window. ![]()

We have a youth model 870 Express 20 gauge that my eleven year old shoots. Very utilitarian gun. Does everything well with both shot and slug barrels.
Tough to go wrong. I'd look for a used, btw, which this gun is: Over a thousand rounds without any problems.

I bought my 870 about 20 years ago ($129), to use in a trap league. I averaged about 21-23 hits per round, and my scores were right there with guys using $3k shotguns. Only change I did to the gun was to have a center bead installed by a gunsmith. Never got a 25 with it though. Last summer I bought an over/under and shot in a league and had my first 25 in the first round with the gun.

Indestructable.
My 870 has been to hell and back (including plenty of waterfowl over salt water) and it keeps coming back for more.

The Wingmaster is a little fancier but basically the same gun. And like the others have said, removing the barrel is quick and easy.

An 870 is a great gun, I have a Remington 1187 that I bought used at my local Gander Mtn. 10 years ago and I've never had a problem with it. I use mine for sporting clays, duck, pheasant and goose hunting. You'll like shooting it, just remember to keep it snug to your shoulder!

Over-unders will fit in the trunk in a soft case no problem. BTDT.
