I guess I have missed all the news about the May 1st Hispanic don't show up to work day.

So do you know anyone not showing up? Think it will make much of an impact on the USA?

If they get a big showing, things could be really slow around the USA, as they are an important part of the US workforce.

Define Hispanic?? I was born in Spain, a US citizen for the past 5 years. I will work tomorrow, and any other day as I have been doing for the past 30 years or so.

If you are referring to the illegal Hispanic (or other nationalities) immigrants ... my take is that the only rights they have is the right to remain silent, anything they say must be use against them in a court of law, etc. etc.

I have several crews working in my house and I made very clear to their managers that if soemone does not show tomorrow not to bother on coming on Tuesday. May 1st may be a Holiday in some countries but not in the US.

I really hope that the 'migra' will be VERY busy tomorrow, but somewhat I doubt it.

PS. My tolerance level with people breaking the law is very, very low

The only people I know that say that they aren't going to go into work tomorrow are a few idiot liberals who don't have a problem with people who brake the law (unless it is a Republican) and think that it is OK to to change the National Anthem. They are the ones who support Socialism and are against those who are high achievers!!

I have a union shop 7 miles from the border as the crow flies. 65 employees, about 6 live in TJ. They're talking about shutting down the border. Most come thru @ 4 a.m. and sleep till starting time. Had 1 guy come in Fri p.m. asking for the day off cuz he believes in it (stepping all over his ***** tho, couldn't articulate what he believed in), but didn't want it held against him, cuz he likes working here. So why make it tuff on me?

I say we treat them JUST LIKE Mexico treats their illegals from Nicaragua and Guatemala, which is beatings, rape (actually not) robbery, shakedowns, and immediate deportation. Actually, I only support the last one, immediate deportation. The rest is hyperbole. Seriously, the U.S. ought to directly confront Vincent Fox, and his soon to be successor, and ask him why we should treat his nationals any different than Mexico treats their illegals from down south.

Tomorrow will be very interesting. Our secretary told me Friday that (hush-hush), she's locking and loading in expectation of the worse.

Personally, I don't expect a riot here in L.A., unless some yahoos start harrassing protestors. I think the long-range implications - like extreme and enduring cases of racism might be the result.

But who's to say what will happen. The human condition fascinates me.

All I know is Phil Angelides who wants to run for CA Governor has some damn cute daughters.

My favorite Mexican Taqueria is closing down for the day, the owners and all the workers will be at the protests. They are all citizens. A bunch of my soccer friends are taking off. My contractor friend who is Chinese says he will go to work be expects none of his guys will be there. I expect most of the food workers at my company cafe will be gone tomorrow too, no burritos or pizzas for any of us I suppose.

The march will go down Wilshire Blvd. 2 blocks from me, probably 1 million people, but not until ~2PM according to the signs posted. I am working on the other side and it will not affect me, I expect everything will be open in the neighborhood where I usually get lunch.

It is classic the way that Mexicans look at me in my painting clothes, like I am from outer space. Or like I am somehow stealing work from them. It's truly unbelievable. I could walk 2 blocks to Wilshire in my work clothes holding a sign that says, "I'm working today", but I would probably drown in spit.

He11 yes we are angry, and why shouldn't we be? This has nothing to do with racism, nothing to do with human rights, it has everything to do with people breaking the law and demanding rights they are not entitled to. Will there be an economic impact? Perhaps a little bit. All I know is that if I were to bail from work to do something like this, I'd get fired. I have yet to hear ONE good reason my 12 million people should be given a free ride into this Country. What they SHOULD be doing is rallying in their OWN country for better human rights, a non-corrupt government, and protest to make their own country liveable. I also have to ask if this "amnesty" will apply to non-hispanic types of people. I know a guy from Holland who would LOVE to avoid all of the red tape and become an instant citizen.... Nuff said, I do not want this to get personal amongst my Pelican buds
