Abolish FEMA?

Reducing the size of the federal govt to where it was in January of 2001 would be a good start. Beginning to look for commonalities rather than continual sniping and fault finding might be a good idea. Blaming "the other guy" and not accepting individual responsibility wouldn't hurt either.

I agree that too many people have put themselves in harm's way, either deliberately or through ignorance by choosing a place to live that has inherent problems. Where do they go? My take is that the population of this country and much of the world is reaching a critical point where something will happen that will bring it down to a more supportable level. Like the lemmings that march en masse into the sea when their population gets too large, something will happen. It might be built into us to nearly annihilate ourselves and climb back out of the muck over the next 4 to 6 thousand years.

Globally, with two exceptions that are arguable, the world is still under populated, and that's with resource consumption taken into consideration.

The real issue is that people that want to live, say on CA's notorious fault lines, or in flood plains in either CA or SC, wish to do so with taxpayers footing the bill when their luck runs out.

An even more important issue, are the funds stolen by every level of government to dole out during these times, and the abusive power those funds grant to these governments.

Better each individual keep their property, their money, and choose to live based on well known risks.

Overpopulation defined as the planet's inability to adequately provide renewal resources to maintain life. Ift can also be argued that the definition includes the planet's capability to absorb the waste products of the total biomass that inhabit it...

Just a different take on the situation...

In my lifetime, the population of this country has nearly tripled.

Where do we all go?

New England. Best-kept secret. I'll take a foot of snow over seismic activity anyday. Worst-case scenario- ice forms on power lines and you lose power for a day or two.

We usually get a good hurricane every 10 years or so, and even then, it's usually weakened.

Those of you from other areas of the country would really hate it in the Southwest. Really...you can get sick of sunshine real fast. It is hot, dry, colorless, cars do not rust, though the paint fades over time. So my advice is stay where you are. I am sure wherever you are is better than where I am. Enjoy the rain, snow, ice, slush, rustbuckets, hurricanes, tornadoes, quakes, and all that. They are nothing compared to our droughts, wildfires and occasional dust devils.

Believe me, you are far better off anywhere but the Southwest.
