Angry The President is crazy...

In an article I'm in agreement with, Joe Sobran, a genuine conservative and an excellent writer, makes the case for what I think is the obvious, George W. Bush is crazy.
Quote:
The scandal of our time is that so many important people have failed to say what is obvious and urgent: that this president is out of his mind. Whether its clinical madness or fanaticism, its something more serious, and more dangerous, than stupidity. And the men around him cant or wont restrain him.

Wow. Sobran... What was obvious to half the country 5-1/2 years ago is finally starting to penetrate the thickest of skulls.

It isn't necessarily 'crazy' as "dry drunk syndrome" produces some of the effects he's observing.

This site has been trying to make that clear for some time:

http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_8601.shtml

They've had stories on Dubya's erratic mood swings

http://www.capitolhillblue.com/artman/publish/article_7218.shtml

http://www.capitolhillblue.com/cgi-bin/artman/exec/view.cgi?archive=33&num=5141

and they uncover stuff the press misses (surprise) like this:

Thans for the links tech. Pretty sobering stuff. This is from almost a year ago, in August of 05:

“There’s real concern in the West Wing that the President is losing it,” a high-level aide told me recently.

A year ago, this web site discovered the White House physician prescribed anti-depressants for Bush. The news came after revelations that the President’s wide mood swings led some administration staffers to doubt his sanity.

Although GOP loyalists dismissed the reports an anti-Bush propaganda, the reports were later confirmed by prominent George Washington University psychiatrist Dr. Justin Frank in his book Bush on the Couch: Inside the Mind of the President. Dr. Frank diagnosed the President as a “paranoid meglomaniac” and “untreated alcoholic” whose “lifelong streak of sadism, ranging from childhood pranks (using firecrackers to explode frogs) to insulting journalists, gloating over state executions and pumping his hand gleefully before the bombing of Baghdad” showcase Bush’s instabilities.

“I was really very unsettled by him and I started watching everything he did and reading what he wrote and watching him on videotape. I felt he was disturbed,” Dr. Frank said. “He fits the profile of a former drinker whose alcoholism has been arrested but not treated.”

Dr. Frank’s conclusions have been praised by other prominent psychiatrists, including Dr. James Grotstein, Professor at UCLA Medical Center, and Dr. Irvin Yalom, MD, Professor Emeritus at Stanford University Medical School.

As a recovering alcoholic (sober 11 years, two months, nine days), I know all too well the symptoms that Dr. Frank describes and, after watching Bush for the past several years, I have to, unfortunately, agree with him.

Conversations over the last few weeks with longtime friends who work in the Bush White House confirm even more what Dr. Frank says and others have suggested.

The President of the United States is out of control. How long can the ship of state continue to sail with a madman at the helm?

If you're going to believe the diagnosis-via-television of one Dr. Frank (whoever he is), the least you can do is support Sen. Frist's diagnosis of Terri Schiavo, right? Honestly, you guys are really reaching.

I have to agree. After all, how did Dr. Frank "diagnose" the president? Was it a personal diagnosis?

He is what he is: probably a little childish when not propped up on stage in front of cameras. He has tantrums, and jeez, isn't it good enough that the man used to drink?

If a guy stops drinking, isn't that the cure for alcoholism, and thus recovery? I don't get how one can distinguish one recovered alcoholic from arrested and treated when the main objective is to put the bottle down.

I don't know, I'm into criticizing a certain few of his policies, but not his personality, which just seems unfair.

I think I have lost any sense of objectivity about this administration, and about this president. It's just every day we learn about a new lie, or a new power grab, or a new scandal. It's hard not to become numb to it -- "outrage overload."

So maybe I'm at the point where I will believe anything critical of the man that I see trash the country I love on a daily basis.

I think there is something wrong with him.

No, the methods of reaching a diagnosis for the two patients is completely different. In fact, diagnosis of Bush could be done by remote interview, or exactly like Dr. Frank did, from hours of Bush video. A treatment wouldn't be begun without a one on one interview, and the consent of the patient, but the diagnosis would be largely complete prior to that time considering how much video is shot of the President.

In the Schiavo case, both a personal examination and CAT scans would likely be required, since her disease was completely different.

Frist was performing politics, not medicine when he spoke; almost everyone knew that; and now you do as well.

I don't know. I'm not saying nothing is wrong with the guy - hell, something has to be wrong with him after all the crap he's led us into - but on a personal level - diagonsis off TV. What the doctor isn't seeing is Bush's "off-TV" life.

As to Frist/Schiavo - yep. That was pandering at its LCD.

I've detested him for as long as I can remember. To me, he screams "coward." He is the exact opposite of a leader. He is (I very deeply and sincerely hope) the opposite of me.

So, I would not disagree with this. Heck, I'm not sure how anybody could. This "presidency" is not exactly going well. In the best of circumstances, that job is a ball-buster. There is no way (other than complete foolish ignorance) he could be above feeling the sting of a 33% approval rating and still be human. Some might say he's really tough. I'd pay thousands for an opportunity to get onto a mat with him and test that theory. I feel I know for a fact what the correct answer is.

It would not surprise me if his psychological house of cards collapses in full view of the world.

I'm with you there. There's more than enough bad policy and daily bending of the law to criticise W without going down the "he must be mentally ill" road.

If he had a plan and it was working out, I'd say yes.

If he had a plan and it wasn't working out, I'd say: give it time (up to a point).

But it's being shown that he doesn't exactly have a plan, and things just aren't working out. So I say: WTF?

Does it make him crazy? I dunno. What's "crazy?"

I do agree with Supes: 33% approval is a number that'd I'd be thinking about in not the most glamorous way. Eating me alive would the number be? Yes.

Would you imagine a majority of the population research the issues, or would you imagine they get their news from the major media conglomerate?
