Question for Bimmer Enthusiasts
I have a friend who just purchased his first Bimmer. It is a 325i Convertable and asked me this question...
Maybe you know? I'm trying to find out what the "S" stands for on my 325i automatic transmission. It is set-up like the following- P N D S 1 2 The guy I bought it from was not the original owner and said he only used "D" when driving. So I figured I'd go directly to my Pelican Brain Trust. If you guys don't know the answer, then it is truly unknowable.

I believe that is for "sport" mode. Check the owners manual to be sure.

It is for sport mode, higher revs before shifting and such. I think this will also be the setting for manumatic shifting, if his car has that feature.

I must be dense because I see nothing in the above link that talks about the transmission.

That article is for vehicle designations.
S is for sport mode. Holds the gears longer. |
