what should my next (dream) car be?
Just doing some daydreaming here. But daydreams sometimes eventually spur action, so...
The cars I keep thinking about are: Jaguar E type coupe. Sexy classic that I've dreamed of since I was 8. Good chance of going up in value over time. Can DYl, parts and help all widely available. Lotus Esprit V8. Striking, very fast, great handling. Relatively new, parts available. Will depreciate further from here. Ferrari 512 BB Boxer. Flat 12, genuine super car of its day, the only affordable (well, in my dreams) 12 cylinder Ferrari that I like. Will very likely appreciate. Have to DYI to afford. The most expensive choice. Porsche 928S4 GT. Rear seats useful for kids and its the only one we could actually take on a road trip. Cheaper then the others, leaves room for a 6 liter or supercharger conversion. A money-loser. your pick? If none of the above, then suggestion?

I considered many on your list after i sold the 87 3.2 cab but I would have to say the 993 is right up there.

I'd keep the Carrera (as long as I'm fantasizing, I'll give myself a two car garage) so a 993 isn't an option. I like my Carrera too much.

Acura NSX. One of the nicest cars I've ever driven. Super reliable; daily driver material. Be nice if it had more power, but what's there is thoroughly enjoyable.

It seems that there are some 12 cyl ferraris from the early 70's that are affordable, but the problem that I see with your list is that they will all potentially cost a freakin' fortune. Have you read Peter Egans columns when he discusses restoring his E-type?
One of the local Porsche guys restored a Ferrari Dino (an early 70's, 308 maybe, not the magnum PI car). He had to have the pistons for his car custom made. 928, cool car, but again, pricey to maintain or fix. Better to just have a 911. Lotus, cool, but I've heard that they seem like kit cars. I think a better dream car would just be a very different 911. If you have a 3.2L car then an early car or early RSR style car or a turbo might be a good thing. I also like the idea of the 356. Or maybe a late 70's or early 80's Trans Am!! ![]()

I think the ferrari that I was thinking of is the early 70's 365 GTC/4, but it looks like they aren't that collectible.

Hmmm. I like the E-type and the 512 out of your list. Make sure the E-type has the 12 cylinder motor. Those sound awesome.
A couple I would consider: C or SC cab or coupe 914-6 993 cab Factory Five Racing Cobra Factory Five Racing Cobra Coupe Ferrari 246 Dino Noble M12 McClaren F1....If you are going to not buy something, might as well not buy a really expensive one. lots of choices....
