Kids chasing exotic cars to take pix!

I thought it was a cute story, any time there is something on the front page of the LAT that does not have to do w/ the world imploding, it's a good thing.

I saved it to send to my Mom, I was just like these tykes when I was their age except I was not in LA surrounded by hot cars and I did not own a camera. I could tell you the year and make of any car we saw when I was 8 yrs. old. They thought it was funny, if a bit odd.

It's not just kids that do this. I was blowing along I-5 in the spyder last spring and twice in the same trip I had cars follow, then move beside the spyder taking pictures.

With a camera phone. Not sure how good those will turn out at 75 mph... But the camera phone operators seemed pretty happy with them. angela

I love cars, and when I see a rare one, I want to see it just a little bit longer.

The web site is a little extreme, but it reminds me of me at 14, but these guys have better technology.

I used to have my mom drive me past the Ferarri dealer so I could look in the window and drool. (Porsches were parked outside.)

What's really weird about the story is that they didn't mention that Spider got multiple videos of Stephan Ericksen, his two Enzos and Ericksen's wife and her Mercedes McLaren...

Yeah, you're right. Unless you count this:

But then in February, Swedish businessman Bo Stefan Eriksson crashed a rare Ferrari Enzo on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, making international headlines.

Spyder became part of the story. He had videotaped Eriksson and other parts of his exotic car collection weeks before the crash. And he and the crew were in Beverly Hills in April when police pulled over Eriksson's wife in a rare Mercedes and confiscated the vehicle. His footage suddenly became hot property.

"CNN and others called and asked for Spyder," recalls his mother, Tippi Dobrofsky. "And I said, 'This is his mom.' They were like, 'His mom?' "

Nice to see kids being respectful and appreciative of nice things. Too many kids would prefer to deface a fine car than photograph it.

Many of those kids are probably like my 12 yo. son. He will spend hours playin Project Gotham or GP Legends and then will be all excited if he can spot a Ferrari or an old Mustang on the road.

I am just as guilty of taking pix of cars I see out on the road. Camera phones work great because you never know what you'll see.

Guilty too and I am 40 years old. Imagine the looks from the guests of this Ritz-Carlton as I snapped away at the exotics. I did not care.
