Video iPod and DVDs

My daily commute consists of a 1hr:15min train ride into the city and the same again on the way home. I'm thinking of getting the new Video iPod to help make the time go a bit faster. There isn't a lot of interesting (to me anyway) video content out there just yet so I'm hesitating.

That said, if I could somehow get some of my DVDs collection onto an iPOd, I would buy one in a heartbeat.

Anyone know if, and if so, how this might work?

My co-worker rips DVD's onto his--I'll ask him how he does it tomorrow and get back to you.

Check out AVS VIDEO CONVERTER 4. I use it to convert web/own videos to Ipod format. A DVD is going to be a big file to convert though and its not quick.

You could also get a PSP which cheaper with a much bigger screen. I watch movies on it all the time. You could even access the internet in wifi hot spots.

I've been using this software to rip dvd to my ipod. It works great and it's fast.

Not to bring a thread 'back from the dead', but have there been any advancements in the DVD to iPod area? Whats the best freeware currently out there?
