Enron verdict....

HOUSTON - Former Enron Corp. chiefs Kenneth Lay and Jeffrey Skilling were convicted Thursday of conspiracy to commit securities and wire fraud in one of the biggest business scandals in U.S. history.

The verdict put the blame for the demise of what was once the nation’s seventh-largest company squarely on its top two executives. It came in the sixth day of deliberations following a trial that lasted nearly four months.

Lay was also convicted of bank fraud and making false statements to banks in a separate trial related to his personal banking.

I am still trying to understand how the Clinton regime incompetence was overlooked by the media, as Clinton presided over the economy that allowed for Enron to get over their heads in debt...Not to mention a massive contributor and "friend" to Clinton and his boy Robert Rubin (ex-Tres Sec, now works for one of Enron's biggest financiers).

No scandal there....nooooooooooo

He may have a get-out-of-jail-free card from both parties. IIRC, Lay wasn't exactly a stranger to Clinton, et al, as the Mul'ster pointed out.

Mul often points out these things, but often forgets that Clinton is not president and hasn't been for 5-1/2 years. And any relationships Clinton may or may not have had will have little relevance to the next occupant of the white house.

I don't know 'Mul' as well as you but that line of reasoning is ludicrous.......

I'm sure at least one person here would volunteer to search Sandy Berger's skivvies on the off chance there were similar notes from Bill.

Couldn't happen to two bigger crooks. Lots of people are to blame for this.

My sympathy to all those that lost life savings in the debacle, no punishment is too severe for these two *********s.

This whole Enron diversion reminds me of that bumper sticker..."Don't steal--the government doesn't like the competition."

Government abuses in accounting and accountability make Enron look small time.

Especially under the current administration! I'm glad we agree!

These abuses are not restricted to former Enron organization. This ethics breach is rampant throughout business environment and goverment, the two should not be separate arenas.

The issue is lack of ethics and investment community pressing busineses to improve performance during every measured period.

Please cite any sources that explain how:

-Bush instructed GM and Ford to base their business models on building large, gas hungry, SUVs.
-It is Bush's responsibility to override this and other bad decisions made by the management at GM and Ford.

O.K. fess up - who owned Enron stock? Who believed the hype? What were they worth - more than IBM or something.
