You'd have to check to see if it's TRUE 64bit, or EM64T, and which (if any) your servers will support. If you're still using your Dell machines, the 2800, 2850, and 1850s should support EM64T versions of operating systems, but I don't have any idea on whether or not it will run better... unless you have a boatload of RAM (more than, say 32GB).

provided there are drivers for all of your hardware, go 64bit!!!!!

There is a difference! i have run Windows(32 and 64, Solaris(32 and 64), and linux (32 and 64) all on a 64bit cpu'd box...

THE 64bit OS is really faster on the same hardware!!!!

On the down side, i cant print to my 4 year old printer under 64 bit , cause they (lexmark)dont make a driver for it...yet....

If you're buying new servers don't limit your performance by going with Intel Xeons. Get Opteron based servers and go with a 64bit OS. You won't be dissapointed.

Note that the next generation of Exchange(12) with only run on 64 bit platforms. Note sure what you guys use for messaging.
