C'mon, am I the only one here experiencing a major bout of techno-lust?

It would almost be tempting at around $800, but at $1099, I'd rather get a Dell with a 15.4" screen. I'd love to try a Mac, but not enough to pay an extra 30% to 40%.

Most non-Apple laptops have been black for years.

It's good to see that Apple is still innovating.

Powerbooks were black many years back. The sexyist of the bunch were the first gen G3 machines (http://www.lowendmac.com/pb2/pismo.shtml).

I feel the same about Corvettes!

But seriously, if you don't do creative work or use the Internet, it doesn't make sense to leave the PC world.

LOL!

I've been lusting since I logged in at 8AM. It won't go away. Neither will my wife approve another computer purchase.

I just bought 4 new Mac Minis with dual core processors for the office. I got so jealous I called Apple and ordered one for myself (with a 20" Apple display!)

In my work I am frequently compelled to use a nasty virus magnet, high-maintainance, service pack loaded nasty-ass windows machine. Macs are a breath of fresh air. Elegant and functional. And now, with the dual Intel processor, if I really must go to the dark side on occasion, I can go there with my Mac.

The prices of used Macs seem disproportionately high. My recommendation is to buy a refurbished unit from Apple. They are 20+% off retail price, have the exact same warranty as new and are eligible for extended warranties. You can find them at Apple.com > Store and look for the red 'SAVE' tag on the lower right. Inventory varies, but there are some screamin' deals.

Moses, before you go to Boot Camp, give Parallels a try:

http://www.parallels.com/en/products/workstation/mac/

No reboots required.

Moses,

Parralels is still Beta. Works great but one kinda annoying bug.

If the box goes to sleep while parallels is running it may have trouble waking up.

Run it only when you need it. It launches fast enough to treat Windows as an application so not really a big deal.

They seem to be quite well priced compared to equivalent Core Duo machines (with 13 or 12" screens, etc)? Less like the old days when there was a 30% plus price hit? I mean, it seems way cheaper here in NZ than the equivalent Sony (I know they are expensive).

Am I the only one who noticed that for the dubious privilege of having a new improved black Mac that you pay an extra $150 (configuring the white one with the same HDD as the black one is a $50 upgrade). I can find no other difference.

I'll keep my silver PowerBook, thanks. I like to think of it as the 993 of Macs- both preceded a move to the dark side.

I'm a total AMD fanboy and I think that Core Duo and the soon to be released Conroe (desktop) are gonna make life difficult for AMD. If I can give up my fanboy status, you can give up the PowerPC fanboy status too. It's easy if you try.
