We get a little storm and the local news people are all over it

So tropical storm Alberto is the first of the season. Today on the west coast of Florida we'll have rain for the next two days. This morning all the local news stations had thier cub reports out on Clearwater beach wrapped in the latest in all-weather gear. They were giving us "a live update on the progress of the storm". Fun to watch these guys try to make a story out of a non-event.

"Reporting from the beach, it still raining. Back to you in the news room...."

Slow news day. I turn the tube on and if nothing exciting comes up at the top or bottom of the hour and they keep blubbering about nothing, then you know nothing exciting has happened.

They're still trying to ride the hype from the series of strong storms last year...

Believe it or not, the same out here in the dry southwest, but more on the local level.

"OMG!! It's gonna rain!! There may be high winds and blowing dust! Stay indoors!!"

Anyone who has lived anywhere else and moves here laughs at it. We get the occasional microburst that knocks down power poles, and the phenomonon of flash floods where water actuall runs in the dry river beds. We even have "Stupid Motorist Laws" for those folks who try to get across these waterways when flooded.
