Charleston, SC had a massive earthquake in 1886.

Yeah, I only felt one or two quakes in the nearly 14 years I lived in the SF Bay area, one was a 4.5 or so, but all it did where I was (in a hotel near Long Beach) was rattle the pictures on the wall.
When I was in grade school in Wilmington, NC; the old school had those huge window sashes, and those would rattle occaisionally from a quake. Very small ones. |

3.1 is nothing.
A chimney fell on my friend's 4-runner during the 6.7 1994 Northridge quake. Didnt live too far from the Interstate 5/14 interchange at the time. Collapsed. They had crews working 24/7 to rebuild it. Traffic was a ***** for months. |
