Stupid even on the Republican scale: Ted Stevens

You know him -- the guy who defended the $425 million bridge for 50 residents. he brings home the pork for Alaska.

This week he was spouting off about offering "amnesty" -- not to illegal aliens, but to Iraqi insurgents who try to kill US soldiers.

While that might make sense in the future (we have to deal with Sadr, after all), you don't talk about forgivng people trying to kill our soldiers while our soldiers are still in the crosshairs.

Stevens isn't the only one -- just the most prominent.

I don't recall that we announced pending forgiveness for Japanese and German soldiers before they surrendered... Stevens claims a distinguished record as a transport pilot. Looks like he's forgotten what it was like to be shot at.
