What's the best Antivirus software?
I just bought a new home computer in March and due to viruses I couldn't remove with the help of Dell I've had to rebuild the system twice. Right now I use all McAfee Security Center and use Spybot and Adaware (lavasoft) to keep stuff off but I've still had problems.
So what do you guys use for Antivirus software?

I like Norton Antivirus. It gives good feedback and downloads updates to your computer automatically for a year's subscription.

I use Computer Associates E Trust anti-virus and MS anti-spyware/anti-virus suite (now called Windows Defender-it's free). I have not had any issues in over a year.
I also use CCleaner (Free) after every session as well. I highly recommend. This is on an XP PC up to date with automatic updates/patches.

I've used Windows Defender, but I'll try that ccleaner too and see if that helps.

Bill, Let me know what you think. I love seeing the crap that it clears out.
BTW, guess what the C in CCleaner stands for. ![]()

For windows, the AVG Free (http://free.grisoft.com) seems to work OK. Although the best AV in general is in that melon on top of your neck. Not that AV software don't help with worms or other exploits. Keep your windows updates up, and use a firewall/router.
Also, consider Switching. OS X rocks, and a mac mini isn't that much more than a desktop PC. If you don't want to lay out the $ for a new Mac, try linux. Debian rocks if you have experience, or Ubutnu if you don't have experience. There are also many "live cds" that let you run Linux without installing - most are Debian based, I'd recommend Ubutnu or Knoppix.

Symantec. Also have TrendMicro on my desktop and that works well.
You know why I like those two? It doesn't talk to you and interruput you all day through annoying popups like McAffee does. That's gotta be the most annoying antivirus program made. rjp

norton and mcafee have numerous people specializing in hacking them so they get hacked often. ESET NOD 32. Never been hacked and it will learn as it works. Rather inexpensive too.
Firewall, use a firewall!! NetPeeker is very good (small footprint and rather inexpensive).

Kaspersky Labs...daily updates and very robust. $40 a year. Very no-b.s. user interface.

AVG free on one computer and Norton on the other. Will probably go with AVG once the subscription runs out.

Norton has turned into a bloated pig. TrendMicro is the av of choice these days for Windows.
That coupled with the MS antispyware stuff (defender) --it's free smart computing practices and firefox for your browser.
