Little Ice Age: Big Chill:

Little Ice Age: Big Chill: It will play again June 29th at 8PM ET on the History Channel.

"Not so long ago, civilization learned that it was no match for just a few degrees drop in temperature. Scientists call it the Little Ice Age--but its impact was anything but small. From 1500 to 1850, a period of cataclysmic cold caused havoc. It froze Viking colonists in Greenland, accelerated the Black Death in Europe, decimated the Spanish Armada, and helped trigger the French Revolution. The Little Ice Age reshaped the world in ways that now seem the stuff of fantasy--New York Harbor froze and people walked from Manhattan to Staten Island, Eskimos sailed kayaks as far south as Scotland, and two feet of snow fell on New England in June and July during "the Year Without a Summer". Could another catastrophic cold snap strike in the 21st century? Leading climatologists offer the latest theories, and scholars and historians recreate the history that could be a glimpse of things to come. Face the cold, hard truth of the past--an era that may be a window to our future."

This is a must see for those wondering about Global Warming, etc. Global Warming is part of a Natural Cycle. The warm up started before our greenhouse emmision could have had an effect.

914GT - "You seem to need 'convincing' that CO2 is not the cause of global warming."

You seem to need convincing that it is. TomAto TomOto.

"All research by all climatologists...." Unlike you I am not familiar with everything written on the topic. I think that we can agree that humans are the cause and hold the cure. While the right seems to want live with reckless abandon when it comes to consumption the left is acting with caution. Prudence is not fear. This makes the liberals the conservatives on the subject.

"Insanity can be defined as doing (or saying) the same thing over and over again and somehow thinking the results will change."

Must...focus...now

This was not a debate about whether or not GW exists - or even if it matters.

The question was, why do liberal fear it more than conservatives?

Jorian, you're right. I do need convincing. I have not already made up my mind as you have. The proof that atmospheric CO2 and GW is not there. All climatologists do not agree. I don't agree humans are the cause, nor hold the cure. I don't think the right 'live with reckless abandon' any more than the left. I minimize my driving, telecommute when possible, and reduce energy use as much as possible. Good economic sense and saves resources. And I see plenty of gas-hog SUVs with old Kerry bumper stickers.

You can quote this new published study, but again, it is by only a few of the experts in the field. The report acknowledges many unknowns and uncertainties. It cannot explain past periods of global warming - whether in the early half of the 20th century, or 1000 AD, or when tropical conditions existed on the Earth's poles millions of years ago. Until there's more solid proof and agreement among climatologists I will remain skeptical but with an open mind.

Why is that so hard for lefties to grasp?...I'll tell you why; because they have an anti-corporate and anti-American agenda. They are liars. Environmentalist lies has cost millions of lives in Africa (DDT was feeding Africa and stopping malaria).

I'd like the global warming/CO2 crowd explain this one to me. I've run across this history on multiple sites.

From The History of Greenland
http://www.explorenorth.com/library/weekly/aa121799.htm

"The next migration came from the east, following "Erik the Red" Thorwaldsson's exploration of the southern coast of Greenland between 982 and 985 AD. In 986, he led a group of Viking families from Iceland, and settled at Brattahlid, traditionally known as Qassiarsuk (route map). The climate at this time was very warm, much wamer than it is today, and crops were able to do well. It seems likely that the name "Greenland" was given to the country, not just as wishful thinkful, but because it was a climatic fact at that time."

"The mild climatic period was fairly short-lived in geologic terms - by about 1200 AD, the ever-increasing cold was making life extremely difficult, and some years no supply ships were able to reach Greenland through the ice-choked seas. During this period, Norway has assumed responsibility for supplying the Norse settlers in Greenland, but as the climate worsened it became a very difficult task."

From Greenland - Wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Greenland

"The fjords of the southern part of the island were lush and had a warmer climate at that time, possibly due to what was called the Medieval Warm Period. These remote communities thrived and lived off farming, hunting and trading with the motherland,.."
