what is your camping cook set up?
i love cooking while camping.
scrambled eggs cooked with salsa and stale corn tortillas..whatever.it's all good! something about being cold, sitting next to a fire..adult beverage of choice.. and Pat McManus once wisely said, "Poking at a campfire with a stick is one of life’s great satisfactions.” i have a 15+ day camping trip coming up in Northern New Mexico. the first half of September. i am gonna be the camp cook!! my brother and i will stay the 15+ days, but we have guys coming and going as their time permits. hopefully bringing fresh food ingredients. i am gonna fine tune my outdoor cooking..i just ordered a plow disc pan..a Mexican Disceda. or Deesco. whatever they call it. this is gonna be fun!! what is your camp kitchen looking like? a pic here for my own inspiration!! ![]()

Same as above.
But sometimes I like to cook over a fire of juniper. So I have a 55 gallon drum cut the top off and peppered the bottom with 5.56 |

I use a Camp Chef Explorer 2 burner stove with a griddle....
![]() Others seem to like the Blackstone griddle... ![]() I like the Camp chef because you can use it as a 2 burner, throw on the griddle or use a BBQ box or pizza oven. Lots of accessories you can buy.

I don't like using the stove in the trailer, rather keep the cooking odors outdoors.

Look in to a Mojoe Griddle (Mojoe Outfitters) - they're a bit unwieldy to transport, but are awesome for cooking.

Wife just got a new 8.5 qt dutch oven for making fire/coal peach cobbler. We tend to make most of our meals over the open fire, even though we have a highly appointed 2011 Heartland 32' RV with all the amenities.
I cook a mean fire simmered chili, and char broil steaks, or seasoned chicken thighs, and when bored do the pie iron pizzas/pies/sandwiches. Something we tried last year that we will do again this year is a foil pack cajun shimp boil with sausage, potatoes, onions, and any other items you want included. We will be camping over a 3 day Mother's day weekend coming up, a week in June, a week in July, and probably several times in Sep/Oct this year. |

I'm old skool. If I'm camping it just doesn't seem right to show up with the kitchen stove.
I use either my Lodge hibachi or just an open fire. I saved a cast iron grate from an old barbeque that I use with an open fire. I build a little rock stand in the fire and place the grate on the rocks. ![]() ![]() |

I just go to the hotel dining room. My idea of camping is a hotel with slow wi-fi or no cable TV.

Mine is similar. Usually camping for me involves going away from people... so I travel light. With lightweight cooking set I can still cook full meals... Bacon is a essential for any camping breakfast... I have a lemon chicken recipe that is always a favorite for dinner.

Pie Irons.
Bring several in various sizes. You can make pretty much anything in good seasoned cast iron pie iron and it's got a lot of hidden benefits. Cleaning is easy, rinse it and dry. The food you make in a pie iron is generally eaten by hand, so no additional dishes or utensils. Each half can double as a single serving cast iron pan. Roast a pork butt before you leave. Allow the rendered fat to congeal and spoon into a small Mason-type jar. Use the rendered pork fat to grease your pie irons. Best sandwiches ever. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()
