Back in 1964, the Democrats ads said I'd see bombing and war if I voted for Republican Barry Goldwater. Well, I voted for Goldwater. The Democrats were right.

From snopes: I watch none. He [former President Bush] sits and listens and I read books, because I know perfectly well that, don't take offense, that 90 percent of what I hear on television is supposition, when we're talking about the news. And he's not, not as understanding of my pettiness about that. But why should we hear about body bags, and deaths, and how many, what day it's gonna happen, and how many this or what do you suppose? Or, I mean, it's, it's not relevant. So, why should I waste my beautiful mind on something like that? And watch him suffer. Read within the context of the full interview, it is a tiny bit more clear that Mrs. Bush's "beautiful mind" statement referred to her desire not to become mesmerized by the pre-war media speculation of what such an invasion would mean, what sorts of weaponry and defenses U.S. troops might well be walking into, which troops would be committed and when they'd be deployed, how long the war would last, and how high the body count might be. Prior to the commencement of hostilities, such matters were the subject of endless supposition by various news pundits. While maybe not "90 percent" of what was filling the air waves was guesswork rather than hard news, Mrs. Bush's point that news of that moment was much more about what could or might happen rather than what was happening was valid. Her comment was not meant as a dismissal of actual deaths or suffering (troops had not yet been engaged at the time of her remark), but of news coverage that amounted to one expert after another making predictions about what they saw as likely to occur.

ok, I didn't pick up on the date ... It's pre-war. I took the quote in the context of the debate over censorship of coffin photos, which it was not.

It seems capitalizing on the dead is nothing new to the disgusting democrats...paul wellstone and coretta scott king memorials prove this forcefully. Yes, piece of ***** is an accurate label for the rats and those who elect them. |

Yup, the thought of dead Americans who died for our country should all just go away quietly. Used tissue.

I didn't see the ad. The Dems are equally pathetic and are still in a whirlwind spin catching up with the Repubs superb political posturing.
But I think I see the forest, and I don't like it. Not for me, not for my grandchildren.

That said, the republican posturing is anything but superb...they are like a great company with 90% of the competition's advertising budget bent on convincing the consumer they are evil. |

Using coffins for a political gain is as stupid and ill advised as using an aircraft carrier to proclaim victory in the nasient stages of a conflict. The tragedy is both tacts are predictable.
Pretending the other side is more crass than your side in a political fight is obtuse. I know folks in those coffins...and I hate both sides: Bush for his handling of the conflict and the DEMS for waffling in the face of a determined foe after they bet on the river card.
