Anyone recognize this license plate?

Here in Mass, I see cars sporting this "license plate" on the front of the vehicle. No front plate (which is supposed to be the law), just this design. Can anyone tell me what it means/symbolizes? This SUV happened to also display this design as a sticker on the back, though I don't seem to see this as frequently.

The closest match I could find was Botswana.

That is a cop's car. It's called the "thin blue line". Helps cops know one another. The blue line is a refrence to sticking together behind the line: police brotherhood.

So this means that they do not have to obey the law about license plates? We all know that they never get a ticket, its called "professional courtesy" but come on, this is BS IMHO...

In a Benz?? If thats the case, then you guys are paying your cops way too much!

Seriously though, if you want to find out what they mean, you should just put one on your car and see what happens.

One of the rules I live by:
Never piss anyone who has any one or a combination of.
1. A gun
2. A badge
3. A Club and or a knife

It has served me well.

I have a problem with cops being immune from the extortion....ahem....ticket writing the rest of us are subject to. Why do they need to advertise the thin blue line if it's not to get them left alone while they drive however and park wherever they want?

Thanks for the replies. "Cop car" is what I thought, too. Every car I've ever seen with this logo in place of the front RMV license plate, has also sported police brotherhood type stickers elsewhere. I figured it was some sort of signal to other cops (running laser guns?) to not issue a ticket. Doesn't sound entirely like an honest thing that's going on, does it? But maybe Mentat's on to something; in the end, there's no law against fabricating one of these plates and sticking it on the front of my car, either (except for the obvious infraction of running no front plate, which seems to get ignored).

thin blue line....very poetic. the professional courtesy extends to immediate family too.

the cops i know and am immediately related too, prefer the accidental exposure of the badge, while reaching for the DL and registration...
me? i am shameless. i say, "do you know ken?"

if that is what the sticker means, i think it is very creative and pretty damn cool.

I heard a story from an old boss a long time ago about a DEA agent up there that drove a Benz and he would nudge people in front of him to get them to move out of the way. I blew it off as an old wives tale until a college roommate from CT told about his friend's dad, a DEA agent that drove a Benz.... Hmmm?

There is also a similar flag with a red stripe across the center instead of blue. That is a thin red line which is for firemen.

I'm telling you, that is exactly what it is. Close family friend is a chief of police. Many friends are cops and most of them have the sticker on their and family members cars.
