Dad, You Smarter Than You Are Hansome...

Some gems that my Kids shared with me today:

My Son: Dad, your smarter than you are hansome...but your not a geek or anything, geeks were glasses and are bald.

My Daughter: Daddy, your belly is soft like a pillow and big too!

Another from my Daughter: Daddy, your all slimmy like a fish (thats after I picked her up after spending only 20 minutes outside working in this Texas heat).

But to her defense she did say she loved me like katsup! Hay, its something!!!

What are some of the gems that your kids throw your way?

Well, not quite exactly the same, but when my stepson was about 13-14 one of his friends was dating one of my stepdaughters friends. They were all about the same age. Of course the two daters were talking about marriage. We told our kids, they are young, they won't get married, they probably won't even last the rest of the year much less until they are old enough to get married. At your age you'll end up dating a bunch of people before you are ready to get married.

His response with a very serious scolding tone and a straight face was classic.

You just don't think we know anything because we are young, but we know a lot more than you think we do. And you don't know as much as you think you do because you don't think we know much.

I swear, my wife and I laughed so hard we could hardly function for about 20 minutes which just continued to piss him off more and more. I tried to stop laughing, but I couldn't.

Hmm, anything else? Yeah, "You're a Dork" from the step daughter when she was a teen. Of course when she was 13-15 I don't think there was anyone that didn't get called a dork on a regular basis.

My 4 year old daughter called me to come out to the driveway to see the "beautiful" picture she had drawn on the driveway with colored sidewalk chalk. When I got to the driveway, I made a big deal out of her simple drawing (a heart and a smiling face).

Twenty minutes after we went inside, my 12 year old daughter called us back outside. Next to her sisters drawing was the older sisters elaborate, colorful drawing with rainbows, trees and animals. The 4 year old seemed hurt to be out done by her big sister but said nothing.

We returned to the house but when I looked for my 4 year old, she wasn't with us. I went back to the driveway. My little girl had dropped her pants and was peeing all over her big sisters drawing. Maybe she'll be an art critic!

I brought home a Modernist painting by John Saccaro, I set it on the floor, the dog came around the coffee table stopped dead in her tracks when she saw the painting and started barking at it. I told her, "Everybody is an art critic." Where upon she stopped barking went up to the painting sniffed it and went on her way.

I know a 21 and 19 year old who've been boyfreind/girlfreind since before the age you mentioned. I know a couple in their mid 40's, she was married at 17, engaged well before that.

My daughter likes to tell me I am getting gray. My son is mad that I am at work this weekend.

Oh, so it's very common. I didn't realize that, that was how most people did it.

I think it's still probably pretty darn rare these days, and the call wasn't just made based on that, it was also based on the individual kids and their personalities. And yes, they didn't last more than a year.

His comment, if you followed his logic - also means that he doens't know as much as he thinks he does, as obviously he doesn't think you know as much as you real know...

Or something like that.

When my little girl was three (about two decades ago) she would call me "Bad-dado" when I did something she didn't like. Still does it to this day

That is great

My son comes up with so many one liners and for the life of me I can not think of a single one at the moment

My wife was holding our 3 year old daughter while waiting in line at the dry cleaners. Ahead of them was an old ME guy with a long white beard. When he looked back my daughter looked at him and uttered "Ho Ho Ho" with a smile. The guy, somewhat offended, gave a quick glare then returned to waiting. Now years later the wife and I still laugh.
