Anyone Know About Bengal Cats?
We are thinking about adopting a cat. After we're unpacked, like maybe this XMas.
My daughter got a cat book and discovered a breed I was not aware of - a Bengal Cat. Does anyone know about this breed of cat? Pluses/minuses? Is this one of those over-popular breeds that has been damaged by over-breeding?

If they're anything like Bengal tigers...don't stick your arm in the cage.

Seriously, I think these things are sort of a time bomb with a cute face.
If it's the cat I'm thinking of, the weigh in at about 25 pounds, are long, and "play" with a sort of capture and kill the leader style of ferociousness. I was told by a woman at the pet store that sure, if one has rodent problems, the problems will be cleared up. And if one also has Chihuahua problems, Llaso Apso or *****zou problems, those problems will be cleared up as well.

I had a girlfriend with one. It would walk up to the refrigerator and jump from the floor to the top -- 6+ feet -- with ease. It was beautiful, but not friendly. If you let them out, you will have no small animals in the neighborhood...

overbred. I'd stay away. Then again, I stay away from *any* purebred these days...

We rescued one last year. A very sweet, loving and tolerant cat. Does well with our kids and dog, not so good with the other cat. Occasionally goes hunting and attacks the stuffed animals like a big cat does. Oddly likes the water, will not hesitate to jump into the shower or bath. She is a great pet and loved by all she meets.

alf, do you let her out? I'm worried that an indoors/outdoors cat with such exotic looks would be stolen. And I've never had a strictly indoors cat.
I was also planning to do a rescue.

We have Invisible Fence for our dogs, but we also put collars on the cats to keep them from roaming the neighborhood. They get their kicks in the yard chasing ground squirrels, birds, and such but we are able to find them whenever we want and bring them in the house. It works quite well.

techweenie - Thanks for the link I'll check 'em out.
Back on topic: It's too bad though you have to sign away all your rights to adopt a cat though. The last one we adopted (rescued as you guys are calling it) I had to sign a contract about shots, care, etc. That's ok, but the one that got me was that they were allowed to come by any time and unannounced to check up on the cat. For some reason I didn't like that form. I signed it but it never sat right with me. Granted, they never popped in but I just didn't like the idea of it. On a side note, by just taking ANY cat in like a stray, buy it, free from a farm, or adopting it from a shelter aren't you in a way rescuing that cat? We've done all of the above numerous times. But I've only adopted 3 from a shelter so I've only 'rescued' 3 cats? In my mind I've 'rescued' WAY more than that.

Bill, far as I'm concerned, you "resued" them all...neutering, shots, etc. means there is no such thing as a"free" pet. But you know, I think they give more than they get...
