I wonder if the people that come up with these surveys have ever spent any time in the towns they list? For example they list Overland Park, KS number 6 and Olathe, KS number 13. I lived in those towns and go back to visit often. Olathe and OP are just two large suburbs that have bled over onto each other. You can't even tell what town you are in. The houses are packed in together. The towns have no individual personality. Traffic sucks. Taxes are high. The towns boring.

We left Va Beach. Crime and too much traffic.

Gosh, if you followed MONEY magazine's rankings, I'd think annual moves could become tedious...

Thank god my little town is not even mentioned. Niether the one in NC or the one in Florida. My secrets are still well kept.

LOL!! The places they do mention in Florida that make the top 100 would never be considerations for me to move to.

Thank you Money magazine.

Where I live is No. 18. I've lived there 20 years and the population has probably doubled in that time. New tract houses as far as the eye can see.

I have personally been to a good many of the top 50 places and I have to say that I would have ranked most of them differently.

My personal observation is that any city in the Midwest that made the lsit, is on it because of low cost of living and SLOW quality of life. It's not because of the of the things to do..mountains, beaches, world class restaurants and entertainment.

I am not intending to upset Midwesterners, I am saying that I have spent enough time there to know it's to boring and the weather extremes are too much for my tastes.

i guess im number 7(border on snobsdale) and now phx is 5th largest city. maricopa county is biggest county in U.S.(yep bigger than san berdo county). bigger than the country of israel! i liked snobsdale growing up when it WAS a one horse town. everybody waved to one another, nowadays everyone flips everyone off! its kinda changed to a beverly hills dezert.........."MY SUV HAS MORE BLING AND SPINNER WHEELS kinda mentality! the price of progress! not many of us natives left. everybody laughed at me and my fellow garrett employee when we bought "WAY OUT NORTH" of phx. it was a long distance call. we had to haul water back then until wells drilled. we had it made back then. we could literally go dove/quail hunting off of our porches. now if we pulled out shotgun we would be shot on sight doing what we did 24 years ago! the value of land then 22k-33k for 1 1/2 raw dezert. 2006 1 1/2 acres raw dezert...........380K! same zip code

Whatever criteria they used I only partially agree with. Most of their "top" picks would bore the crap out of me after about a week or involve that white cold stuff that is reported to fall from the sky. Screw that. If it don't have palm trees, it's out by default. If it snows, it's 90% out. If it's boring suburban generica hell, it's out by default. . . If it ain't near the ocean, it's 90% out. If it ain't near mountains, ocean, or SOME sort of terrain feature to make it interesting (news flash - corn fields aren't interesting), it's out by default.

i'm with you on most of this stuff except for the palm tree requirement. i like to ski but i still wouldn't pick colorado either. cannot stand being landlocked. even chicago wouldn't do it for me... ain't foolin' me, it's a lake! LOL

how can you trust a list that has fargo, nd as one of their choices? what criteria was used there? cheap a/c bill? most effective refrigeration appliances?

Based just on the CA picks, I can tell you how to get on the list. Be a white-bread suburban bedroom community full of tract homes and HOA rules. Livermore, Rancho Cucamonga, Folsom - that's where you want to get the hell out of.

As for their top ten "big cities", some seem like pretty nice little towns (Raleigh NC). I guess the list is written for those moving up from Folsom CA who could go to Wichita KS and actually think they're in a big city.
