Cool I'm a threat to security... oh the shame!

Just got back from my trip to Hawaii... While there bought a couple of obligatory Hawaiian shirts (buy them at the ABC store same shirts but half the price of a gift shop). Got back to the room and go to cut the tags off. I start thinking and way, way back in my memory of tossing a Small pair of scissors in my shaving kit. So I dump out my kit and there in the bottom of the little bag is a pair of rusty old scissors... as I snip off the tags I realize... I almost always throw my shaving kit into a carry on so if the lose my luggage I will at least have a shaver, toothpaste/brush, and deodorant... Therefor these little scissors have been flying with me for the last five years!

I had an exacto knife in my briefcase once (why, I don't know - it had been in there forever). You should have seen the airport security folks. You'd think I had just climbed the fence at the White House and was rushing towards it with dynamite strapped to my chest.

Actually, scissors under 4 inches in length are just fine these days.

Meat cleavers are still prohibited...

In defense of airport security the scissors were at the bottom of a crammed little shaving kit which is probably hard to see through all the junk in the xray machine. Although they did take my co-workers tiny fingernail clippers.

The rules were changed in January. Read the new list in my link above.

Just add all liquids to the list.

Hey, how was Hawaii?

I had a 3 inch lock blade that i thought i lost in my carry on on multiple trips between London and Seattle, post 9-11. Found it wedged between 2 compartments. Crossed the Atlantic about 6 times before i found it there.

I had a T-handled spike wrench (for track spikes) confiscated in San Diego two years ago returning from Chula Vista.

And they don't even work that well taking out spikes, much less disassembling an airplane.

Guys..... It's not the airplane they are worried about.

Believe it or not, it's the crew and the other passengers they are worried about.

After 9/11 they forced the cockpit crews to abandon the cabin crews.

Hopefully, if anything ever starts back there, you passengers will come to the rescue of the cabin crew.

The cabin crew call me and tell me they are in trouble? Everyone is going to the ceiling, then the floor, then the ceiling, then the floor. When the screaming stops, I will land and let the feds sort it all out.

Hawaii was great (Kauai technically) only rained bad one day. I was a little pissed at my dad for bringing his golf clubs (my nephew rented a fine set there... he also rented a fine set of scuba tanks for him and his wife) but then I'm a minimalist. I managed to pack two weeks of clothing and snorkel gear into two carry ons... and then proceeded to help my parents schlep their bags in and out of the airports. First time we ever had a three generation vacation with my parents and my nephew with his wife and baby.

Just try getting a leaf blower on board....

Sounds crazy. Once, years ago, I was headed through one of the ATL concourses, and there was a big display of "CARRY-ON PROHIBITED ITEMS". Several items in the case seemed reasonable to exclude... fireworks, hammers, kitchen knives, etc. But there in the case along with the other stuff was a leaf blower.

Really.
