Question for chess experts regarding pawn promotion
Strange situation: The black pawn moves to 8th rank and is promoted to queen... this promotion results in white being in checkmate. Is this scenario legal? I need to know if I've beaten my 6 year old daughter did this result in a stalemate?

Should be Checkmate .. Stalemate will be when the King has no legal moves to make and is not under attack (check).
But has been many years .... btw. congrats on 'beating' your 6 years old!!

Absolutely legal - and encouraged. If your opponent isn't making defending against pawns past about the 6th rank or so an extremely high priority, he/she deserves to be beaten.
