What's the best burger you've had?

Sad story (http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060806/ap_on_bi_ge/obit_snyder ) got me thinking about best burgers. Maybe should be in two categories, chain and nonchain burger places.

Burger Poll

Best burger here is the Cubbie burger. Bacon, cole slaw, chilli and cheese.

I really like Fuddruckers but I'm not much of a burger enthusiast.

Fuddrucker's.

I eat very few burgers, and I enjoy the ones at Fudd's on the rare occasion that I feel the need to grease the machinery.

Great condiment selection, too.

My favorite here in L.A. is Johnny Rockets #12 burger w/o mayo. Burgers are really a matter of taste; I consider In-and-Out to be mediocre at best, and just not very tasty. They do use fresh ingredients, though, and their fries are good.

There is a little place called "The Apple Pan" in WLA that has been there since 1947 that has a great "Hickory Burger", it tastes just like Johnny Rocket's to me. JR must have copied their recipe, but that's not a bad thing.

I have a finicky palate, even when I'm broke and starving I could not eat Carl's Jr. or that type of crap. That's like eating out of a dumpster to me.

coming back to n,y. yesterday from the volks 'vair show in shrewsbury i had a very good burger in lee, mass. at joes diner on rte 20. cooked to a perfect medium as requested,
toasted bun, slice of raw onion. when i asked if the patty was from a frozen box or hand formed i was told i could have my choice of either . i was very pleased. when the bill came, with tax the total was $1.84. oh. forgot to say, that was a cheeseburger.

We did a 1/2 lb bacon cheddar Fuddrucker's burgers yesterday. Pretty darn good. Can't complain in a place where you fix your own. Maybe one day I will try there chicken...

The original tommy's burger, eaten standing up at 2 am on the corner of beverly and Rampart. Doesn't get much better than that for me.

The same burger at one of the other tommy's doesn't taste anywhere near as good.

Best chain....Steak n' Shake.
Fudruckers has a decent one back in the day, but it has been a while for me. I don't think they syrvived anywherein Florida. The cowcarcasses hanging next to the front door teneded to bum out the squeamish, though...lol
The best i can recall was at a place on US1 in South Miami that was torn down, along with a really good chinese place to make room for the FIRST version of the Bakery Center. I think it was called Munson's or something like that. Best current place is El Cap in St. Petersburg.

I put burgers into 2 catagories. Fast Food style, and gourmet.

In the triangle i'll rank the fast food style types a #1) Wimpy's Grill #2) Cookout #3) CharGrill

My favorite gourmet burgers are at Federal, and the Starlu Burger at Restaurant Starlu. They have a "burger" on the menu at all times, they've had a ground tuna burger, a kobe burger, a chicken burger, and a whole bunch of others...

The best though, the best burger I've had in a long time was this burger at starlu (i forget the number, 9 maybe) they took two patties with provolone, and american, wrapped it in dough and baked it. It was fantastic, and HUGE.

At home I tend to do bison burgers, mmmmmmm bison.

+1. And the service/ambiance is amazing. A horseshoe shaped counter and there almost always a wait. The protocol is you stand against the back wall, and I swear I've never seen an argument about who is next, which is amazing becuase sometimes it is difficult to keep track of who was where. The guys working there have been doing so since time out of mind...a total throwback.

Tommy's isn't the best, but it is an original. But the star are the chili cheese fries, not the burger (imho).

For a chain...they all blow.
